Force Tactical start

I've been replaying using dosbox 0.73. Mostly it's working fine, but occasionally (usually after 10 or more tactical missions), it will say to insert CD when launching a tactical mission. At this point I am hosed, and frequently lose several game days going back to the last save. I suspect it is possible to launch tacp.exe directly after one of these instances and resume, or at least be able to save from that spot. Does anyone know the commandline to launch tacp.exe successfully? All of my attempts thus far have failed.

Don't know how to do that, but if you're using the steam version, have you tried this?

Q. Why does Apocalypse ask for the CD, and how do I fix it?

Answer found here

Find ...\steamapps\common\xcom apocalypse\cd.iso

Mount cd.iso using Daemon Tools, or open it using a high-quality archiver like WinRAR.

Copy the following folders to ...\steamapps\common\xcom apocalypse\XCOMA

MAPS

RAWSOUND

smk

TACDATA

TACEXE

TACINI

UFODATA

UFOEXE

UFOPAEDI

To repair damage by attempting to install this fix, have steam "verify integrity" on Apocalypse.

I have the actual CD from the original release. I have done a full install, and copied the music file over. It only fails the CD check once out of every 10-20 times going into tactical.. just rare enough to catch me not having saved several times. :( It does appear the 'steam version' is just the .iso and dosbox 0.72 though, which is interesting.

If this is the Steam release: I'd lift the files from the ISO into the main install. The procedure is documented on the Steam forums (do not have link at hand).
