Race Specific Weapons

Like floaters with a special gravity field thing, that makes stuff heavier, harder to walk, and you can't fly. It also lowers the accuracy of weapons. It will kill eventually. that kind of stuff

nice smileys facehugger!:D But mutons with a special armor, making them even stronger (oh, joy), and more accurate with there weapons due to its advanced targeting system, or etherials that can kill you with mind blasts, or pick up objects and discharge them with their mind. It is extremely difficult, and only etherials can do it.

Ethereals are supposed to be physically retarded, right? I think they ought to be limited to light (i.e. tiny) arms, like pistols and grenades. Then give them the ability to use psychic attacks at every level of command. Ethereal soldiers might not be able to kill the X-Corp agents in one attack, but a powerful psychic creature like that ought to be able to cause a mild headache at the very least.

Plasma pistols do almost no damage to an agent with a flying suit, and plasma rifles aren't much better. All aliens got heavy plasma so they'd stand a chance against X-COM later in the game.

 

IIRC, there were a few rank specifics:

Soldier- PP, then PR, then HP late in the game

Engineer+Nav- PR, then HP

Medic- Stun launcher

Leader- HP, then BB later in the game

Commander- Blaster bomb, always.

 

Because the better races came much later in the game, they usually had the best equipment already.

 

Don't all the aliens report to the same overmind? I don't think they'd have vastly unique equipment, except for their terrorists.

Just because they all serve the same ruling creature doesn't mean they wouldn't be equipped with specific weapons that better take advantage of their unique abilities. Floaters and ethereals would need to carry pretty light weight equipment, or their ability to fly would be severely impacted. Conversely, you could strap a full out deployable plasma gatling gun to the back of a reaper without it being slowed down at all. Then a muton/sectoid/floater gunner could ride/follow the beast around and use it as a mobile weapons platform.

Ethereal are suppose to be physical weak, if we limit them to the light weapon (plasma pistol and rifle) we would have to give them more psi attack........ imagine your agents getting mind blast, psi control, and choke to death......

sounds like a good idea actually, maybe set it for higher difficulty levels?

Those PSI guys always seem to know who's the PSI weenie, and who has the rocket launcher. Even if I never see them with a mind probe, the aliens always seem to know. <_>

 

One tactic that I've been doing, is to drop a smoke grenade inside the skyranger. It really seems to protect the guys inside aginst PSI attacks.

How about Etheral PSI Healing powers.... could be a bit much but it would solve the medikit for aliens prob.

Maybe the alien medics could have an alien version of the Medkit. The flying blob CTD mentions having a "blank slate" genetic code. That could be used by the aliens for healing.

Then how am I supposed to fight other aliens like snakemen and sectoids?, no weapons, no alien butt-kicking. It's just that it IS my first time with x-com 1, I've played X-com 3 a lot of times, used to counter psymorphs with androids, but in x1, i really don't know yet how to properly fight ethereals.

Data: Snakeman specific wep

 

Altough scientists know little about this wep, it is known for its power. Named Bazilisk because of the poison screting bullets - and the relation to the mitical beast.

It seems it uses a truster sistem to fire the poison neddles at high speeds, this is why this wep is also known for its sniper preference.

Studies are still at work.

 

(need to think about what to write next.... did this in such a short time :rolleyes:)

Each race having its own weapons makes sense for the game.

 

 

I always seemed odd to me that a grey would be carrying the same weapon as a muton soldier. Also more violent races like the mutons and snakemen it seems to me would have some nasty looking swords and other hand weapons.

Gee, I'd love to see a reaper with two blaster launchers under its neck and covered in armor :P I think it is a good idea, every time I get heavy Plasma and Flying Suit, none of their equipment acually kills me. Maybe their built-in weapons could be more powerful than the heavy plasma and humans couldn't carry it or extract it

I think the point was: Mutons can carry heavier and more destructive weaponry than sectoids. In general, all the races would use as good weaponry they are able to.

 

In ver 1+ i would like to see sectoids limited to PR, leaders and commanders maybe HP due to their psi-abilities. Snakemen, floaters and ethereals would carry as standard, and mutons would have something far heavier than HP (Impossible for human soldier to use).

Agreed. This also help on dificulty, if you face Grays first, and they only carry plasma pistols, you won't have a problem getting the "thing" for the game. Other then the grays only carrying pistols, the other races could use weapons on chance (affected by dificulty level and time passed), with a certain limit.

That's a discussion for version 1. This is a discussion for post V1. After V1 is out, we can make powersuits boost stregnth, to let them use the 300lb kill-o-matic that the Morlocks are so fond of. :D
