kiome
Hi. I've installed X-Com apocalypse on my old laptop runing under Windows 98 (not SE). I can play the game but there is no sound, so i tried to launch setup.exe but i don't startup : i've only a empty black dos window with a flickering underscore on the top left corner... And nothing happen... If i press 2 keys from the keyboard, the program get closed. Can anyone help me? Thanks
NRN_R_Sumo1
unfortunately mine is 7.77 mb which is more than the allowed upload size of 5.08, otherwise Id allow you to try mine ]: Ive never found it to be an overly huge issue not playing with sound in Apocalypse, I normally turned the music off anyways, but the gunshots are a nice thing to hear ^^'

kiome
Hi. I've checked your file and it's the same of mine. But i noticed that on my "modern" computer (an Athlon XP 2000+ with Windows XP), setup.exe is ran correctly, whereas on my old laptop it can't be run. I think it's a problem with Dos or Windows 98, but i'm not sure... Can anyone help me? Thanks PS : i've already played X-Com Apocalypse on a old computer and it's great with sound and music PS2 : i've x-com apocalypse from an original CD, it's not downloaded or whatever... Guest Genericata
I have the exact same problem. Does anyone know in what file holds the data about the settings? If it's possible, maybe someone who had already made the change through setup.exe could upload that file for people's use. My guess would be that it's in options.dat or xcom3.cfg. I'm dying to play this with sound so if someone is willing to put those up there I would be very grateful. T_T
traver02
hi,some problem for me.No music and no way to run SETUP.EXE. I have tried even with DosBox.A good workaround could be to get the configuration files from someone that as run setup. Any idea? the game is running but no sound and no music. I have tried even with DosBox.A good workaround could be to get the configuration files from someone that as run setup. Any idea? the game is running but no sound and no music. I can run the setup... The file that it modifies is sound/sound.cfg I am looking into decoding the file, but it is hex... I will get back with more info when I am successful. mikebrown
ok, I got itTo edit this file, you need a hex editor. it is 14 bytes long, and is set up as follows:0011 2233 4455 6677 8899 aabb ccdd <- this line is just for reference, it is not in the filexye0 xyvw xyvw xyvw 0000 0000 0000 Card|Port|Irq |Dma |filler........|<- this line is just for reference, it is not in the file the bytes are stored in a little endian fasion(you swap the bits) ie1000 => 00100220 => 20020536 => 3605 for the irq block, ffff = -1 (or none)otherwise, enter the value normally here are the possible card values.xy:card=========================00:Sound blaster01:Sound blaster pro18:Sound blaster 160b:Microsoft Sound System19:ess audiodrive02:soundmaster 205:pro audio spectrum20:ensoniq soundscape23:gravis ultrasound27:gravis ultrasound max therefore, if I want to have a:soundblasterport 220irq 5dma 1 I would first convert those values to little endian port 220 => 2002irq 5 => 0500dma 1 => 0100 and then I would look up my sound cardsound blaster => 00 then I would fill in the values using a hex editor: 00e0 2002 0500 0100 0000 0000 0000 the resulting file should replace your SOUND.CFG file in the sound directory. I have attached an example version of the file that fits the above setup. rename it SOUND.CFG and put it in your sound directory. modify it as needed and you are good to go. (I had to upload it with the name sound.cfg.txt cause the form did not let me upload it as a cfg file)sound.cfg.txt
