X-COM 2 kicks (the player's) ass!

Which is why I love the game so much. In very few games are you allowed to lose entire squads of troops and not have to restart. How hard do you guys think X-COM 1 was compared to 2? It seems to me that the aliens in 2 were much stronger. The superhuman setting was so masochistically fun.

Yah Xcom 2 is almost as good as Xcom 1, yet for some reason its not as good. Anyway you should see me in Xcom 3, i Rampage in the city, i had a screen shot somewhere of the city in ruins, but lost it :(

Anyway, me and My Twisted Avatar (Also known as the evil Walmart god) are going to invade mars, Goodbye

/me jumps into a Avenger and flys off to kill a over sized brain

Mechanically, XCOM2 is an improvement. But the game fails in the story line/theme ideas. It's obvious they wanted to release an improved version but didn't want to use the same story but didn't spend enough time developing the story/theme.

On a side note those cruise ship missions are just plain stupid.

x-com 1 was a piece of cake compared to number 2(which i, suprise suprise, never finished, but am in the process of finishing, as we speak)

thing is, they attack more, they're stronger, and they cant attack them when they're on the ground, so its much harder, plus, the enemies are tougher(you cant even MAIM that freaking lobster man with a regular x-com weapon...)

there is, a certon loss... its underwater, which kinda makes the story a bit odd(i keep thinking about old sci fi horror movie...), and its pretty much x-com 1 with slight changes... i like it, its not just like the first, but its definitly a great sequel

and damn hard too... i had to keep a constant look on the GRAPHS at the beginning, because the damn things are elusive... had to follow a trick where i send a ship to patrol a few hours before they make an assult :P but yeah, harder then the first.

So has beaten X-Com 2 on super genius or whatever the hardest setting is without EVER reloading? (The true sign of an X-Com master, or maybe just sheer insanity, take your pick.)

What I liked about XCOM 2 over XCOM 1:

* yep the HTH weapons.

* Regular bases were like the final base in XCOM 1, first the surronding grounds then the base.

* I just heard about the multiple Hand Grenades thing.

* The final base is really big.

* Terrains had added complexity, small rooms for buildings, chain-link fenses.

What I disliked:

* Too similar to the first one. It was like Doom2 as the improved Doom, it was just a couple things and that's it.

* The aliens could show up anywhere in your base. So much for base design. I like designing bases. In XCOM2 what's effin point.

* The underwater-only autocannon thing . . . . totally gay.

* Hated the music.

* Flying subs? Can only attack in water. Mach five in air, mach five in water. What the heck is that! Lightspeed sonar, get serious?

* Those damn crusie ship missions. Yeah Micah if they were reduced to one "level" that would be better. They were too big.

* I really didn't like the design of the alien bases. It was good that they were 4 levels and not 2 but still.

* The overall look of the game, everywhere, just stank.

Oh I forgot anouther good thing about XCOM2: mixed alien crews.

BTW I just loaded up XCOM2. Man if I didn't know it was the sequel, by the look of it I'd swear it was the older game. The look is definitely inferior to XCOM1.

I found UFO graphics inferior to TFTD.. maybe the light :P

Really? I found the soldiers look worse, the Geoscape looks worse. Some things are just as well (say UFOpaedia for example) but nothing superior.

Hmm? Eye of the beholder I suppose.

 The heavy plasma looks cooler in UFO ;)

Oh so you found the bug too were you can get XCOM1 plasma weapons in XCOM2!

 I didn't like how they reshaped the equipment in TFTD. Then ya don't get to see your soldiers most of the time since they are under wather and in those special suits. The authors said TFTD had better graphics in the advertisment but I dunno. Suppose they got ships under water and all that but underwater it is somewhat hard to see.

I played TFTD and loved it. I tried playing UFO, but I really couldn't get into it because I didn't like the graphics and it was too easy. I'l admit that the perpetual blue light and the suits look pretty lame in TFTD but I think it runs at a higher res or something, because overall I think the graphics are a lot better.

And speaking of cartoonish graphics: OMG the intro in UFO is mind boggling. Reminded me of pulp sci fi from the 60's and 70's.

XCOM 1 is superior to XCOM 2 in almost every way. What XCOM 2 really had going for it was:

* The challege - it was MUCH harder than the first in every possible way.

* The better "big" aliens - those giant dinosaur looking things and the giant floating shrimp guys were hillarious. The first time I bumped into one of those T-Rex looking dinosaurs and he let me have it with an unending burst of sonic shots I was lmao.

* The island/port Terrorisms - These were a lot of fun, I thought. More detail taken in the little fences and what not than in XCOM 1.

* The hand to hand weapons - These were SO cool, if only they were a little more practical.

What really ruined XCOM 2:

* The STUPID weapons - I hated practically every gun in XCOM 2. Take one look at the Sonic Cannon... what a ridiculous idea, who would carry that thing around?

* The graphics - EVERY aquanaut look like a complete loser (which they tried to cover very well with their cute little blue suits). Everything in the geoscape looked really cheesy (especially the yellow land). Everything was so dark, not scary dark, just stupid dark.

* The alien bases - while this was a really cool idea to make them all so big, they ended up being very hard on the outside, and very stupid on the inside. Once you got right down into the inside of a base, all the monsters were huddled up in the same small area of the map in almost every single base, while the upstairs was almost always void of any kind of activity at all.

* No land missions or interceptions - What the heck were they thinking when they made this game?

So my overall opinion: XCOM 2 failed as a sequal in almost every way - but I played it start to finish anyway, and sadly I loved (almost) every minute of it. It was hard as heck and it was XCOM - and that has to count for something.

well there was a solution to cruise missions and the like, if u land in the mission and then abort it u hardly loose any score( i havent played this for years, but u only lost 150-300 instead of 1500-2000 for not doing the mission).

As a sequel, TFTD sucked in every sense. The worst part was the graphics - blue and yellow, what the!??! UFO at its 320x240 still looks good today on my GeForce 4, whereas to load TFTD would make me feel ill :)

I also loved the weapons in UFO, the idea of unlimited ammo for lasers was inspired, the satisfaction of weilding a heavy plasma and the funky purple clips, the awesome damage of the blaster launcher..

TFTD also sucked with the missions where you were on dry land (maybe I'm thinking of cruise ship missions, it's been so long since I played I can't remember). If I remember rightly, your guys actually carried their helmets around with them without wearing them! How bloody stupid :(

UFO > all the other games put together in my opinion.

TFTD was intended to be some what monotone. It's a mater of realisim. Underwater is not exacticaly high color... It may be near the serface on the tropics.. but this takes place down in the depts.. ever see 'The Abyss'. Not exaticaly a high contrast movie.

Sonic weapons are based on sound.. and proper acustics require special shapes. so the weapons would look kind of strange.

Gause weapons have clips becaus the consome mater. And it give you a challange to juggle the clips in your inventory.

As for UFO. Even the CE version has the dificulty bug. Even at Superhuman you are still playing agains the Beginer AI.

TFTD's AI is far superior. it's missions are harder and it's terrain more chalenging.

As far as i'm concerned TFTD requires a beter calaber of player than wimpy little UFO.

dont get me wrong I like them both. But TFTD will alwase be my favorite.

my only gripe it the they did not properly explain why you can 'throw' under water.. I see it as each 'thrown' item has s small hand windup propeller. (the better the strenght the tighter you can windup the sping, and thus the farther it will go.)

I didn't like TFTD much... Idea with surface part of alien base was great. Only one thing makes me mad about TFTD. I cant use my tanks with torpedos on land! :cussing:

And one more thing - why is XCom so morons? Aliens are well prepared for fighting on surface but XCom? They use harpoons! Like a medieval crossbows against superior technology... :(
