I'm not much of an extremist really, so I won't test your moderator skills much... I have not played xcom4 before to answer one of your questions. Was interceptor a FPS game based from the cockpit of the plane? Would it equate to a game like X-Wing or Tie Fighter?

Yes, it was like that, the basic thought was probably to attract both Space combat AND xcom fans. But to most people it lacked in both departments...

lacked??? LACKED????? It is one of the best games I have ever played!
The only possible fault I have with it is that the AI is a little bit suspect!

So what makes you consider it one of the best? What was the plot like? Do you just hop in a plane and try to rack up the kills, or did you have to defend a ship or something like that?

It continues on xcom3. You protect the corporation space mining platforms from aliens... You still have to defend your bases, mining facilities,... and attack alien bases/freighter fleets,... conduct research, equip spacecraft,... Every now and then you get some news from earth (about cult of Sirius and such)

It ain't bad, but I liked the other ones better. It does have multiplayer skirmish battles tho.

Don't forget the final battle - that showed the AI in its stupidest form though. OH look, a black hole! Let's fly into it - BOOM! :D Seriously though, it was a great game - it is very easy once you notice the bugs in it - eg I finished it by slowing the game up. That meant I could finish all the research and play around until I was ready to finish it!

I find bases too weak. I just ignore the ufo's, fly straight at it, launch missiles, and fire my primary weapons until it's dstroyed. This one is with best armor/engines/...
tho.

So is there still any squad based stuff, or is it all behind the yoke of a fighter? I always liked X-Wing and the like, never played a multiplayer version, but that would be fun too.

Yes, you still control a squad of fighters. And you can give 'em orders like in any other space shooter : "cover me",... It's not as detailed as in the other xcom's IMO.

Yeah x-wing was cool, but I was more suited for tie fighter :D I always enjoyed shooting those slow y-wings to pieces :devillaugh:

It does get repetitive as well as bases being too easy - but once you fly on the harder levels - basic lasers and stuff against fully speced wraiths and even SPECTRES then you really know what it is all about!

When did it come out? Was it fairly recent, or did it come out shortly after Xcom Apoc?

it came out before apoc, that's how the timeline was.
as for me, i played the game but the aliens destroyed me with their nova cannon <_<
and that was a german version, edited with english text and sound. so now i only got german videos :explode:
i bought it a few years ago, the box was in english so it had to contain a english game. sadly not, and i dont get any help from infogrames holland.

But, I have to say - GREAT GAME!!! Never played it multiplayer - I think the servers have collapsed - though if you use a the ip address thing through something like TA:M (knew I could slip it in somewhere!) then we should be able to play - let me know if you want a game - I am really up for a game. Also, if you want any tips, let me know, I have finished the game 2 or 3 times on the three easiest levels, I have also tried all the other levels - getting quite far, so I should be able to help on all levels (to some degree). :D

Try running it with Moslo or Turbo. Might help. What were the original system specs? I assume they were quite low as it was in the XCOM1,2 and Apoc era.

Can you use the mouse? I remember trying to play XWing and TieFighter with the mouse. I wonder how many mice got broken as a result of playing that game.

I found that running moslo slowed that down too. In fact, i found that the controls became unusable before the game was slowed down enough. I had to play on medium speed, so that the controls werent annoying.

The graphics are inferior, the gameplay is inferior, its nothing new but with a worse story line, and it is always glitching. :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Hey! don't dis TFTD! :) Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I loved interceptor, but its controls sucked, therefore I couldn't play too well. :)
Ufo was one of the bests, as was TFTD, which was like a harder UFO (which I enjoy), Apoc was good as well. It would have been even better if the aliens weren't so veiny and the vehicles didn't look like they belonged in the fifties.
I'm only partially inactive. :P I can still be reached at cpl.facehugger@gmail.com, and via PM. Preferably the former.
