trodas
I'm now on a old machine, yet I wanted to relax a bit and play UFO Enemy Unknown. So I googled and downloaded the "UFO: Enemy Unknown Gold / Collector's Edition", there http://hem.bredband.net/piotrr-filesThen I grab the latest version of the great Seb76 work - UFO Loader v1.27 there http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=File:UFOLoader.zipAt last applied the patches there http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=242034948 Mainly I did the steps four (Combo X-COM Game Folder Patch) and five (alien voice patch) and then edited the UFOExtender.ini to match my expectations. 1) Problem with resolutionThe game with video options...Video Pitch=1HQ4x=0D3D=0D3D Windowed=0...working well, but the rest of the screen is invisible! Like this: http://s19.postimage.org/43wbxre5v/UFOLoader1_27_only_175pix.png (basically I see the game in normal colors, but from the 320x200 screen I see only 175 top pixels - stretched display showing only this - measured by the mouse bottom pixel - that was the last visible) Of course without the rest of the screen (the PrtScr resulted in 320x200 pix file, I had to crop it to the 175 pix I can only see) the game is unplayable. I cannot use the game menus there... 2) Tried setting another video, yet...The machine is OLD. It is a Dell OptiPlex GX110, witch is PIII, 256MB SDRAM (2x128MB) and integrated Intel 810 graphic with 4MB videoram. That running at LCD 17" BenQ monitor cannot take DirectX 9.0c, so I go with DirectX 8.1 instead. Hence I cannot use D3D option (tried, yet not working with correct message). So even that I hate blur, I tried with HQ4x=0 option change to HQ4x=1 to get the whole game ON the screen. And there come surprise: http://s19.postimage.org/e8uznbwqb/UFOLoader_1_27.png The loader crashed badly. Probably there is not enought videoram for another 1280x1024 texture? Dunno. I try 800x600 and we see, but I cannot play the game at all.Any help? 3) There definitively should be a option to use the monitor resolution of something like that... Maybe Fullsceen option? 4) I would love to see there a sound volume option in the INI file. So the volume of the sounds could be somewhat limited and allow user to set it from 0 to 100... trodas
I changed resolution from 1280x1024 to 800x600 (all True Color 24bit) and ended up with the very same crash, when HQ4x get enabled. DirectX 8.1 installed and Windows 2000 SP4 used.Older versions just seems not to crash with this HQ4x switch at least, however that ended up with this version:20100403094817!UFOLoader.zipThis is the first one that crash, when I tried it with the HQ4x switch. Since then is the crash problem there. Fixed! It is enough to unpack the hq4x32.obj to the program directory (this file was not in ANY previous version present) and no more crashing, even when HQ4x is enabled. However it also did not change a thing, so... disfunctional switch. Damn. Edited August 9, 2012 by trodas
trodas
My basic rant is, that after years of development, the basic issues that prevent the loader to function still remaining up to this day. I have to use the old patched exe ( http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4469 ) to make the game work. This is at least weird... However the game run well using the old patch: http://s9.postimage.org/tttisa0a7/UFO_Enemy_Unknown_geoscape.png http://s9.postimage.org/iiqv3wtf3/UFO_Enemy_Unknown_play.png http://i47.tinypic.com/fz1zdu.jpg http://s11.postimage.org/68cgn7dw1/UFO_Enemy_Unknown_play.png
