[stewart]
post your ideas. Ex. Leave as a normal book manual Make into some hyperlinked thing with sound and movies like an Xnet or something. etc.
Durandal
I think it should be a normal book, but it should have a style to it that looks military. I figure someone should type the final version on a typewriter and scan it. That would make it look like some World War II training manual or something, which would be an interesting contrast to the theme of the book (ultra futuristic combat.) Anthraxus
I would think that since the document is generated by a private company along military lines for online consumption a cross-hyperlinked reference would be most appropriate. We could also include screen captures (aerial photos) and video as it became available. While having the whole thing look like a scanned WWII training manual, I don't think that that is very realistic on what one would expect from the Xcom command structure. [stewart]
Why not have both. Spaceman42 is making the document version of it; have that available for down load. But also have a hyperlinked thing to. It'd be neat to link with companion sites like the UFOpaedia one then the site could promote each other that way too. [NKF]
You know, for the html version, you only need the one document, but you can make a whole selection of stylesheets to choose from. That'll satiate the needs of those who want ultra-high-tech -v- campy WWII typewriter print or whatever. One document, many styles. Everyone's happy. The main compatability problem will probably come from the picture inserts. Some images might look all right in one style, but might clash in another. - NKF
Penta
A thought. XCom (and X-Corps) are secret organizations. One of the things everybody seems to forget is that computers are not secure, not in the least. There are always ways to retrieve data. Therefore, few classified documents, let alone documents classified at the Top Secret or SCI levels like XCom and X-Corps stuff would be, goes on computers. (Does stuff go on computers that is classified? Yes, of course. But...) Especially stuff like manuals, which need to be readily available. Paper is preferred. Paper is easier and faster to destroy, and can be kept more secure than digital documents. Paper documents are harder to accidentally carry from secure areas, let alone smuggle out. In short: It'd be better if it looked like it was on paper.
[stewart]
There will be the document version which Spaceman42 is working. Also there will be a hyperlinked website too.

Do you have an opinion on what should be the default? I lean to high-tech. In short: It'd be better if it looked like it was on paper. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>This could easily be one of the Styles mentioned above.

[stewart]
It's comatose at the moment. I suspect there is a chance it will pick up once CTD nears finishing it's work on Xenocide.
