Cd Crack Not Working

I tried using the CD crack from Apocalypse Works For Win2k And Xp but the game still comes up with "Drive not ready error reading drive D". When I pop in the CD, the screen goes black and I left it for 5 minutes but nothing happened, then when I hit escape the window closes and goes back to desktop.

I am using Windows XP home and followed the steps exactly as said in the guide.

Edit: I also own the CD version, and have used the last link in the FAQ for the CD version, the guide on how to do it in the sticky, and the guide and files from here.

I personally have never gotten Apoc to run correctly in XP. It might be that the latest service packs break the guides here.

What I had to do was download Microsoft Virtual PC (It's free). Then I had to install Windows 98 on it (95 would probably work as well, unfortunately they aren't really free so you'll have to 'aquire' them) and then install Apoc and run it through there.

My $0.02, hope it helps.

Funny thing is it works on the PC I put together my own (custom built) but these 2 Dell Pre-builts don't work. Whatever, I have spent 2 days and several hours trying to get a game run so I could play it on a laptop. I'm just gonna get Master of Orion 2 or something.

BTW: When I drag my .bat file into the Dosbox, I get the splash screen for X-com, but no matter how long I wait it doesn't go to the main menu.
