Planet Esperanza - colonized by the spaceship Magaleansh in 2020.

88 years later, observation telescopes in orbit receive strange readings. A closer look reveals that these are evidence of a stable wormhole. Less-stable wormholes also seem to randomly appear near Esperanza, with much debris and abandoned spaceships flying out. One object coming from one of these lesser wormholes seems to be inert, and is safely brought in.

Several weeks later, a heavily-damaged courier from another colony arrives, with all crew dead and only an ominous message left in its databanks: "----ttacked! -----empire---- ----all is lost---- -----st----- alie---- I repeat, all is lost! Earth is---- ----control----- govern---- -----Despertar has also----- ----if you are hearing this then Esfuerza has also---- ----recorded---- ----repeating message. Earth has fallen-----"

This confirms the council's worst fears.

And so, the Counter-Alien Force is founded.

CAF Headquarters Orientation

Mood Music

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/8514/vlcsnap2011061820h58m29.png

Kay Rosine: Welcome to the Counter-Alien Force Headquarters! I am Kay Rosine, Director of Public Relations. We apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter as a result of our transitional period. As you know, the CAF was founded by a council of all of the colonies of Esperanza, with Ilyria donating the land. Every colony contributes an equal amount to its funding, ensuring that no one colony achieves special interest status.

Reporter 1: Is it true that the base's location was chosen in order to cover the biggest concentration of population centers, and that some colonies such as Patria and Syrtis Maior are being written off?

Kay Rosine: As CAF is currently in a transitional period and was founded just 24 hours ago, there will certainly be---

Protestor: They're throwing us to the wolves! Ilyria's gonna let the aliens butcher us Patrians! Ilyrians don't care about northern people! It's so easy for you to sit pretty in your--- *ugh* *oof* Don't tase me bro! *bzzzt*

CAF Security Guard: Move along, nothing to see here.

Kay Rosine: Again, we apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter.

http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/5160/vlcsnap2011061820h58m57.png

Kay Rosine: The base layout conforms to traditional Esperanzan military base doctrine. The power plant is kept in a secure corner, a quartet of hangars ensures ample defense and trade potential, a single living quarters provides all habitation needs, and a single advanced AESA system is sufficient for

Reporter 2: This is David Hatchet, of esperanza-is-boring.com. Don't current AESA technologies have severe vulnerabilities regarding the invading aliens?

Reporter 3: Can the detection system handle another sudden orbital infiltration like the November 9 terrorist attack?

Kay Rosine: The detection system is the most advanced of its kind.

Reporter 3: Answer the question! Can it detect another November 9? YES OR NO!!!

Kay Rosine: Please refer all technical questions to our Department of Research & Development. Moving on to the hangars...

http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/4430/vlcsnap2011061820h59m26.png

Kay Rosine: The CAF currently fields a pair of F-122A Raptors, the most advanced interceptors currently in mass-production. The CAF is also pleased to announce a special partnership with Richarius Fighter Planes Co. which will lead to the acquisition of the F-122M variants, which possess improved thrust capabilities.

Reporter 1: Is it true that the bidding process was rigged so that only the Medea-based Richarius Co. would qualify for the obscure requirements of the competition?

Reporter 4: Why is it that the Syrtis Maior Tyrannus-class Fighter was not adopted?

Kay Rosine: The CAF's operational capabilities are limited entirely to countering an alien invasion, therefore a theoretical inter-colony war was not one of the requirements, whereas high-altitude high-speed interception was. The F-122A was also the only craft which possessed the required Forward Detection And Reconaissance capability at high altitude.

http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/9724/vlcsnap2011061820h59m37.png

Kay Rosine: The UC-47 Red Raider is the backbone of our rapid response policy. In the event of an alien incursion into colonial territory, it can fly to and land anywhere on the whole planet.

Reporter 2: Didn't the UC-42 Blue Fist suffer from extreme problems when carrying heavy loads? Why sign a contract with the company that makes those?

Reporter 3: Now would be a good time to mention that the UC-42 was the ship used by the November 9 terrorists! How can the CAF make a deal with such a company!

Reporter 4: Miss Rosine, isn't it true that the MH-960 Lakota can carry twice as much weight as the UC-47?

Kay Rosine: The first priority of the CAF is to be able to protect the whole of Esperanza. Although there exist many VTOL troop transports with small lateral footprint, only the UC-47 meets all the requirements.

http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/4774/vlcsnap2011061821h01m46.png

Kay Rosine: The CAF employs only the best of the best of Esperanza. All applicants are required to undergo rigorous examinations to determine their suitability to fight against the aliens. Here you can see my own profile results. *giggle* Of course, there are different requirements according to the desired job position.

Reporter 5: (mutters under his breath) Bet those numbers mean she "services" real good...

Kay Rosine: All CAF personnel are also required to undergo basic combat training, regardless of position, in the event of a direct alien assault against the headquarters. For example *swish* *click* I can draw my sidearm and shoot a target in only half a second. *points the gun at Reporter 5* The CAF does not have the luxury of thinking in civilian terms.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/205/vlcsnap2011061821h02m22.png

Kay Rosine: Please excuse the choice of language used by the CAF Director of Human Resources. All humans on Esperanza are equally valuable and nobody is considered a "dreg of society." The CAF conforms to all colonial labor laws. *tries to put her hand over the screen*

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/4997/vlcsnap2011061822h06m46.png

Kay Rosine: The CAF headquarters is expanding rapidly, with all available space expected to be used up by the end of the month. The cornerstone of the expansion plan is the Compact Training Center.

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7856/vlcsnap2011061821h01m08.png

Kay Rosine: The Compact Training Center will be a state-of-the-art facility including firing range, swimming pool, weight lifting center, and Grab-Ball court. Each of these sections can also be rapidly converted for other uses, including purely-recreational ones. Of course, it is unlikely that the CAF will ever require the less-utilitarian features.

Reporter 3: But Grab-Ball is an unpopular sport! Why not multi-story rugby instead? Which, if I may add, is the de-facto premier sport of all Esperanza.

Kay Rosine: Grab-Ball is even more demanding than multi-story rugby and has the advantage of requiring significantly higher strength and reflexes from its players. Therefore, it is considered more useful for the purpose of increasing and maintaining the physical conditions of the most elite soldiers on this planet.

Why You Should Join CAF

Kay Rosine: Last-minute check: Does this hairstyle look good on me?

Cameraman: Live in 10, 9, 8, ...

Kay Rosine: Oh! Sorry.

Camerman: Rolling.

Kay Rosine: Hello, I'm Kay Rosine, Director of Public Relations of the Counter-Alien Force. Today we'll be showing you what it's like to be a CAF trooper, and what kinds of things you'll get to use. First, the firing range.

Purho Raiskilnen: *grumble grumble* Huh? Uhhh... *scratches head* Yeah, so, here's the firing range. I'm Purho Raiskilnen, and I make sure all this stuff works. So first, let's talk about safety. Now, I know that this whole alien invasion thing has got people scared, but it's nothing to worry about. This is why.

http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/1023/vlcsnap2011061915h34m16.png

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/6838/vlcsnap2011061915h34m13.png

Purho Raiskilnen: Desert Rat armor can stop any bullet! Really. Here, lemme show ya. Kay, full-auto to the chest.

Kay Rosine: Can do! Firing in 3... 2... 1... *ratatatatata*

Purho Raiskilnen: See? Didn't feel a thing! Aliens point their fancy-shmancy rayguns at ya, nothin' to worry 'bout.

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4349/vlcsnap2011061915h34m18.png

Purho Raiskilnen: But let's say, hypothetically speaking, one of those piddly rayguns does leave a scratch. You just wipe that scratch away with a stimpack. Why, I don't even use band-aids or anything like that at home. My son falls off his bike, we just spray a stimpack right on! *mutters* doesn't stop the whiny runt from crying though...

http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/2316/vlcsnap2011061915h33m49.png

Purho Raiskilnen: Lose an arm and a leg, our fine ladies will fix ya right up. Just the other day, I was testing some grenades over by the firing range, one o' them cooked early, blew my face off! So they just threw me in one o' those healing beds, fixed me right up. The docs gave me this here, showed what I looked like before---

Kay Rosine: *whispering* You can't show that on TV! Children are watching!

Purho Raiskilnen: Oh, right, sorry, hahaha. So anyways, long as you got a buddy to drag your donkey back to base, you'll be fine! The docs do ya good as new, and the nurses are easy on the eyes if you know what I mean, heh heh heh...

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5352/vlcsnap2011061915h33m55.png

http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/889/vlcsnap2011061915h33m57.png

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2858/vlcsnap2011061915h33m59.png

Purho Raiskilnen: Our guns are so good that they never jam! Ever! I test-fired about 5,000 rounds from one of these babies, non-stop, thing still working good as new! The barrel stays cold like an iced beer.

Purho Raiskilnen: Let's ask a trooper how he feels under a full load. Prattlethorpe, how're you holding up?

http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/7489/vlcsnap2011061915h33m23.png

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: I dare say that this gear enables me to be more contemptuous of those dirty aliens. Although, the combined weight of this equipment is not entirely to my lik---

Kay Rosine: Aaaaaaaaand, let's see what's going on in the hangar bay!

John Sykes: I'm John Sykes, aerospace mechanic. So maybe all that runnin and gunnin ain't your thing. You're probably thinking all like, "Man I ain't gettin my donkey shot by no creepy alien mofo! I just wanna blow up stuff, you know what I'm sayin?" I feel you. We respect that... which is why we need you to pilot our latest F-122M Raptors.

Kay Rosine: What do you get to mount on those Raptors?

John Sykes: Check out this baby.

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5748/vlcsnap2011061915h34m23.png

John Sykes: The GAU-12-30 is the leanest, meanest mother this side of the galaxy!

YEEEEAAAAAAAAAH! That's what I'm talkin' about!

Kay Rosine: Woo-hoo!

John Sykes: The chicks dig this baby! Sign up for CAF and the ladeez will be all over ya, know what I'm sayin?

http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/4888/vlcsnap2011061915h34m28.png

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6866/vlcsnap2011061915h34m25.png

John Sykes: But let's say you just wanna hang back and relax. You be all like, "Hey, flying saucer, you think you know me? You don't know me! I'mma just sit back and watch you DIE, flying saucer." The Red Sting is all about that. You just lock-on and BAM! TAG that flying saucer beeyotch! That alien frisbee-looking mutha is goin' DOWN!

Kay Rosine: Yay-ah! ...oh, where was I? Yes, the teleprompter, looking at that is good. So as you can see, CAF is a fun environment, while still being the greatest and most-well-equipped military organization that has ever existed. Contact your local CAF recruiter today!

Meanwhile, in the workshop...

Taeko Yamashita: Greetings, Mr. Raiskilnen. I am Taeko Yamashita, Director of Research & Development. We will be working together very closely for the forseeable future.

Purho Raiskilnen: *grumble* *grumble* Huh... so you are. Pleased to meetcha.

Taeko Yamashita: I am pleased to report that your division is now fully-staffed with twenty of the best craftsmen that Esperanza has to offer.

Purho Raiskilnen: Great. Just great... kicking me upstairs. Do I get a nameplate for my desk too?

Taeko Yamashita: *smirks* You can use your new rapid-steel-prototyper to build one. More importantly, you will need to see this.

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/177/vlcsnap2011062018h02m32.png

Taeko Yamashita: After reviewing the data from the most recent UFO incursions, we believe that our current armaments are excessively below the technology of the aliens. These are but baby steps towards achieving technological parity. Do not tell any of the soldiers of this, understand?

Purho Raiskilnen: Looks like a plan. Yeah, I get it. We can't have them losing that invincible superman feeling, can we?

At the barracks...

Taeko Yamashita: Attention!

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Yes ma'am?

Taeko Yamashita: We have just decoded a message from another colony.

Kay Rosine: This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill!

Un-named Pilot 2: You don't have to tell me twice!

Un-named Pilot 1: Alright gents, just keep focused and we'll be back for dinner!

http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/820/vlcsnap2011062018h05m28.png

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2280/vlcsnap2011062018h05m45.png

Kay Rosine: This is HQ, we have re-acquired contact, check your targeting data!

Un-named Pilot 3: Is that some kind of stealth system?

Un-named Pilot 1: Lock on target!

Un-named Pilot 2: *gasp*... *ooh*... *ahhh*...

Un-named Pilot 3: Come on come on come on come on come on come on come on!!!

Purho Raiskilnen: This here's a Desert Spirit, it'll soak enemy fire for you.

owl208: Thing is pretty dang heavy, though.

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/7919/vlcsnap2011062018h06m53.png

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Alright men, listen up! That was a small weak craft. It is most likely that any surviving aliens will be of a lower class, and therefore, easy to dispatch. Remember your training and this will be easy.

Helena Trieste: Bullets - the great equalizer.

http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3219/vlcsnap2011062018h07m01.png

Will anyone die on the first mission? Are three soldiers and a HWP enough to secure a crashed scout? All this and more on the next episode!

Quicker on the Draw, part five

Helena Trieste: Moving out!

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3988/vlcsnap2011062209h37m14.png

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/4012/vlcsnap2011062209h37m23.png

Helena Trieste: Hostile spotted, north, far!

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Covering fire! Trieste, advance!

http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/7150/vlcsnap2011062209h37m40.png

http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/409/vlcsnap2011062209h37m54.png

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Who made these tactical scopes?

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3853/vlcsnap2011062209h38m10.png

http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/2916/vlcsnap2011062209h38m16.png

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: It's down!

Helena Trieste: Moving!

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/156/vlcsnap2011062209h38m54.png

http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/7987/vlcsnap2011062209h39m06.png

Helena Trieste: Clear!

http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/9138/vlcsnap2011062209h39m14.png

Helena Trieste: Looks like three of them were DOA.

Un-named HWP Operator: No signals either. UFO is secure!

Un-named Red Raider Pilot: Good work team! Dust-off time!

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/7545/vlcsnap2011062209h39m47.png

And so, the first tactical mission goes off without a hitch, even though it was done with only three humans and a HWP. Sometimes it pays to be quicker on the draw.

Taeko Yamashita: You're lucky it only burned into the ribcage, owl208. Just a little bit deeper and you'd require a few weeks in the regen tank.

owl208: The stimpacks do their job, I'll give 'em that much. They still don't stop the bleeding, though.

Taeko Yamashita: The alien weaponry melts right through armor and acts as an anti-coagulant. The stimpacks were designed for bullet wounds. We'll have to see what we can do.

Helena Trieste: Real comforting. The aliens don't do much better against bullets.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Bear in mind that these were only low-class aliens. Their rudimentary protective measures were sufficient versus a single bullet - assuming they had any armor at all. More privileged aliens are not likely to be as vulnerable.

Taeko Yamashita: We'll find out very soon, I think.

A Quiet Month

Journal of Taeko Yamashita, February 1, 2108

The first month of CAF's existence was quiet and surprisingly safe.

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/7158/vlcsnap2011062615h11m03.png

While many volunteered, few had the willpower to sign the final contract. Russell Sharp was one of those few. He was a veteran, much like the others, someone who understood the sacrifices that would have to be made to save humanity.

owl208: This Desert Spirit is frickin huge!

Russell Sharp: So I've noticed. Can we stash some extra mags and munitions in the thing, at least? This kit weighs a ton.

Helena Trieste: If you cannot carry your own magazines, perhaps you are not worthy to shoot off all of those bullets in a single engagement.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: That's enough, Trieste. To answer your question, Sharp, we cannot. The thing is full of its own ordnance as it is. We will be using it for cover quite often.

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3258/vlcsnap2011062615h11m38.png

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1059/vlcsnap2011062615h11m54.png

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/5720/vlcsnap2011062615h12m17.png

People started getting along better once the gym was finished. When it came to off-duty time, these hardened veterans disdained those average first-person shooter games, preferring activities that engaged their whole being.

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8739/vlcsnap2011062615h13m02.png

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/4908/vlcsnap2011062615h14m15.png

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4654/vlcsnap2011062615h14m29.png

Air superiority was the main priority. We got lucky in that first engagement, and were certain that the aliens would send more ships, tougher ships, ships that shot back. Missiles would be our main workhorse, thus those took first priority.

http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/4928/vlcsnap2011062615h15m34.png

Intense PT became mandatory for everyone on the base. There were less complaints about the weight of the gear as we filled in all those unused muscles. My husband started taking me out to dinner more often near the end of the month as well. I guess it's good to do those things we all used to do when we were younger, taking a break from worrying about the annihilation of the human race and what not. In a way, my husband is like a military spouse, even though I'm a civilian doing science work - he has to show his ID to enter the base, he didn't see me very often before the lab was built, there are issues of planetary security that I can't tell him, the whole nine yards.

http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/6812/vlcsnap2011062615h16m25.png

http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/2269/vlcsnap2011062615h16m37.png

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1118/vlcsnap2011062615h16m51.png

John Sykes acted just like my son does when he gets a new toy. The pilots had their pictures taken next to the very first Fire Hammer missile, too.

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1027/vlcsnap2011062615h17m15.png

It was time to test these new missiles.

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2394/vlcsnap2011062615h18m25.png

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3435/vlcsnap2011062615h18m49.png

Those UFO Scouts were real slippery. The first time we got one, we were pretty lucky that it splashed after only one salvo. This one kept evading both missiles and sensors. Despite looking like it had all kinds of holes in it, it kept flying. After enough Fire Hammers, it finally exploded in mid-air. It also had some sort of defensive weapon - nothing serious, but the pilots were already begging me to look into new shields and armor.

http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/6278/vlcsnap2011062615h19m08.png

I was skeptical of the commander's decision to prioritize R&D of HWPs, but the reality was that we just didn't have enough troops to go without. The least we could do was make sure they could soak damage meant for four men. I didn't have a lot of viable tankettes to look back to, never mind tankettes that could withstand alien weapons, but the Desert Rhino could at least take its share of damage in place of our few and proud troops.

http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/7328/vlcsnap2011062615h19m51.png

With that out of the way, I convinced the commander to let me cut open some of those larvae corpses. If we could figure out some basic things about alien biology, we could develop a more portable stun-gas solution. Bagging HVTs (high-value targets) is important in any war, and we didn't see why the aliens would be any different.

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/6982/vlcsnap2011062615h20m09.png

We knew this would happen. Poor Ms. Rosine had to flatly lie to the public about it, and she held up well under the strain. No wonder she was so eager to spend plenty of time with the boys afterwards. Patria and other colonies with large surface areas and greatly-dispersed populations were, in fact, being written off. I heard the commander was even planning for the possibility of half the planet turning collaborationist and hosting alien bases on their soil, and that we would have to wait until we were better-armed and better-staffed before liberating them again.

We all deal with it in our own ways. The soldiers just grit their teeth and keep pumping those weights, preparing for the day when they will need to carry twice as much ammo. Kay Rosine drags me off to the base's mini-mall even though I'm probably too old for that sort of thing. The commander... well, I have no idea what he does in his off-duty time, or even what his background is. All I know is that he was somehow involved with that one probe retrieval...

The Fall of Pulsar

---------

Shadowy Figure: Yamashita, report.

Taeko Yamashita: Yes, sir. First priority was figuring out a more efficient stun gas formula.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7073/vlcsnap2011070311h17m24.png

Taeko Yamashita: This reminded me of an article my husband showed me...

http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/5391/vlcsnap2011070311h20m30.png

Shadowy Figure: How long until you develop a countermeasure against the alien biochems?

Taeko Yamashita: We'll need to examine more species. A good look at that UFO Scout would probably help with the materials science too. Meanwhile, we've been making progress on punching through their personal armor.

owl208: When can we start using those?

Purho Raiskilnen: Soon as we get, oh, let's say, about twice as big of an operating budget and quadruple the engineers. In other words, not anytime soon.

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/11/vlcsnap2011070311h18m05.png

owl208: Wanna test its armor?

Russell Sharp: Nah, it might explode.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: That's what we want to test, isn't it?

Russell Sharp: Best that it explodes in an alien's face.

Shadowy Figure: Sortie in 30.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: I beg to differ, sir.

Shadowy Figure: Oh?

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: As the tactical team leader, I am better attuned to the needs of my men than you.

Shadowy Figure: You dare to challenge my authority?

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: He who dares, wins. I am in fact contradicting your authority.

Shadowy Figure: What is the meaning of this?

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: I am issuing a different order, which is of a wholly different character than your own.

Shadowy Figure: And what would that be?

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Sortie in 10.

Shadowy Figure: Permission granted.

The Hellish Battle

((The game crashed near the end, so most of the footage was corrupted. I did, however, manage to get footage of the most interesting part...))

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: owl208, Sharpe, blow that wall!

owl208: Frag out!

Russel Sharpe: Frag out!

BOOM! BOOM!

CLOMP STOMP CLOMP STOMP...

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Good job! Hold position and shoot anything that comes!

Dozens of corpses later...

Russel Sharpe: Is that like a two-legged boar or something?

owl208: Stunners out!

POOF! PUFF!

owl208: Bagged it!

Helena Trieste: Purple floating thing spotted! Engaging!

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Negative! Commander said we need one of those alive too!

Helena Tireste: He said what?

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: That's a direct order from the top!

Helena Trieste: Stunner out!

POUF!

Helena Trieste: Bagged him!

STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP...

More dozens of corpses later...

owl208: Cover me, changing mags!

Helena Trieste: *wiping sweat from her brow* This is for Pulsar!

Russel Sharpe: Where do they get all these larva things? Fire in the hole!

Un-named HWP Operator: Negative, diagnostics show that nearly all the wiring's corroded. That green larva stuff burns like a mother!

Mrrrr-hrhrhrhr-mrrrrr...

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: We'll have to make do.

By now, the corpse count must be up to like 100 aliens or something...

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Alright, that's all the easy ones. We'll have to hunt down the rest. Trieste and Sharpe, you are Bravo, search north! owl208, form on me, we are Alpha!

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/8611/vlcsnap2011071918h57m35.png

Sparky von Luebeck: Contact is returning!

Shadowy Figure: What are you waiting for? Launch! Raptors! Now!

John Sykes: We can't!

Shadowy Figure: Why not?

John Sykes: Reporting critical damage to the airframes!

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/7209/vlcsnap2011071918h58m23.png

John Sykes: Just a couple more welds! Fuel complete in five!

Un-named Pilot 2: Forget it! I'm launching! Scratches and all!

Un-named Pilot 3: Splash one!

Kay Rosine: Incoming message from colonial!

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/831/vlcsnap2011071918h58m56.png

Kay Rosine: Woo-hoooo!

John Sykes: HELLS YEAH! Take that you beeyotches!

Un-named Pilot 3: Yeah, we did it!

Un-named Pilot 1: Great job kids, don't get cocky!

owl208: Humans two, aliens zero!

Sparky von Luebeck: Momma's gonna love this!

Russel Sharpe: Momma? Hey Sparky, why don't we show you something tonight?

Sparky von Luebeck: Oh gosh, I don't know if I'm supposed to...

Shadowy Figure: Go ahead von Luebeck.

--------

The morning after...

Taeko Yamashita: Special delivery from the victory fairy.

http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/6710/vlcsnap2011071919h00m20.png

Purho Raiskilnen: Even better news: we've got a new UGV ready to load.

Helena Trieste: And the doctor says the toxins are all scrubbed out.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: That's good to hear, Trieste.

owl208: Well, these things shoot straight, I'll give 'em that much.

Helena Trieste: Only half as many shots between reloads. I don't like it.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: The improved punch will make up for it.

Russel Sharpe: Lookin' forward to reaching out and touching some aliens.

--------

Back to the lab...

Purho Raiskilnen: So what've you got for me, Taeko?

Taeko Yamashita: A few things.

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/1653/vlcsnap2011071918h54m21.png

http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/5884/vlcsnap2011071919h00m40.png

http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/5359/vlcsnap2011071919h01m31.png

Taeko Yamashita: Another step towards air superiority, and John Sykes will get a little break.

Shadowy Figure: How is the containment unit holding up?

Taeko Yamashita: It continues to operate at maximum efficiency. Decay is still at 0.0000361% of the natural rate.

Shadowy Figure: In that case, only after our soldiers are properly equipped may you shift resources towards these... things.

Taeko Yamashita: Understood, sir.

John Sykes: I gotta say... I'm really gonna miss the sound of the GAU-30.

Un-named Pilot 3: Who cares, we got LASER BEAMS!

Shadowy Figure: Don't shoot them all in one place. Dr. Yamashita, your report?

Taeko Yamashita: Yes sir. Unfortunately, that chaser the boys bagged was worthless. But, there were some more interesting findings with some of the other things in cold storage.

Shadowy Figure: Hmph.

Taeko Yamashita: You don't look surprised. Is there something you're not telling us?

Shadowy Figure: There sure is, and if I told you, I'd have to kill you. Meanwhile, why don't you see what you can do about that derelict's hard drive?

Taeko Yamashita: Of course. But keep in mind that the fate of humanity is at stake. I won't hold back anything I find. The pilots and troops have a right to know.

Shadowy Figure: Noted. Meanwhile, we're letting too many of those UFOs escape. It's time to call in a few favors with the governor of Stratos.

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1129/vlcsnap2011072413h24m08.png

Governor of Stratos: I saw the videos. There is no way that is happening to my people on my watch.

Shadowy Figure: Thank you for your understanding.

Shadowy Figure: It's time I told you all the truth. Kay, gather everyone.

Kay Rosine: Y-y-yes sir...

Un-named Pilot 1: Present and ready to retake Peloponesia, sir!

John Sykes: The Raptors don't have enough range for it.

Un-named Pilot 2: Then what are we supposed to do?

Purho Raiskilnen: *grumble* *grumble* ...ugh, I joined CAF to avoid meetings.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Tactical squad present.

Helena Trieste: What's this all about? Why aren't we shooting aliens?

owl208: [/i](I hope Sparky doesn't blame me for getting him drunk and dancing crazy during that victory celebration)[/i]

Shadowy Figure: Greetings ladies and gentlemen. As you may have heard, a derelict was found in space around the same time that the alien invasion started. What you haven't heard is where it came from.

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/5798/vlcsnap2011072413h24m54.png

Shadowy Figure: A few of you were also fast-tracked to join CAF due to some of the data found on the derelict. Dr. Yamashita, next slide.

Taeko Yamashita: This is Russel Sharpe, Commander of XSGCOM.

Russel Sharpe: It can't be!

Taeko Yamashita: And this is owl208, famous actor.

owl208: What the? I don't remember dating a redhead like that! And what's wrong with my cheeks? A cowboy outfit? Seriously? Is this some kind of joke?

Shadowy Figure: It is no joke. We are still recovering the data from the derelict, and you can expect more meetings like this in the future.

Sparky von Luebeck: Uhhhh, sir! Sorry to interrupt, but we've got a problem!

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: You needn't tell us what to do. Team, suit up!

Purho Raiskilnen: *grumble* *grumble* Hey, you soldiers there.

Russel Sharpe: Yeah what?

Purho Raiskilnen: Taeko and I built a little something to try out.

Ebenezer Prattlethorpe: Its performance against larval toxin leaves something to be desired.

Purho Raiskilnen: Maybe you should politely ask those floating gasbags to stop breathing on ya! We're doing everything we can here!

owl208: I'll wear it.

Russel Sharpe: As will I. Apparently I've got a lot of transdimensional siblings, might as well wear a shield that shoots lasers.

Since it doesn't seem like there's a lot of interest, and also because of the way this game works, future posts will be mostly summary posts, with the occasional tactical battle if there is a new enemy or if something important happens.

Unless there's a sudden burst of fan activity, I'm going to have to end this LP. The game itself has a very rigid structure, and thus becomes long and repetitive until the late game when the Centaurus is finally built. I'm already going through that process for one game, and am not interested in doing so for this LP without fan activity.
