ATeX
Hi! What do u people think of some movie music, using HQ Orchestra Samples. If u want to know how it sounds, here are some links to the homepages of some libraries. U can download several demo-songs from it. http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=EW-155 http://www2.vsl.co.at/english/demos/Vienna...ntroduction.htm I'm wanting to use such samples in a suitable style for the game. What do u think of it?
[[Micah]]
I think it is definitely an idea to entertain. Most recently, we've been after the music department to produce some kind of orchestral theme (specifically based off G. Holst's "Mars") to put in intro, outro, and ingame cinematics. Are you proposing we use some of the music on these collections? Or will you make something similar from scratch?
ATeX
hmmm, I'd prefer to make something from scratch. But if u really would like me to add orchestration, then that's also ok. I'm also uploading a demo song now. It's a combination of the guitar music that Whitewashed made with my orchestration on it. Just a simple tryout, nothing special. [[Micah]]
Yeah, I was trying to ask if you were going to make original stuff. Sorry it came out funny
ATeX
hehe perfect! I'll be back on target in about 3 weeks (due to the exams now ) and then I'll see what I can do btw, in case I won't be online anymore the next few days: happy newyear everyone!!! ATeX
Hmmm, I've been listening to Mars from G. Holst. Nice style idd, a bit old and militaristic. So u need that old sounding arrangement. Or do u want something more futuristic, like for example in the Matrix movies?
[[Micah]]
I think the older style, or at least not the most futuristic (like Matrix), will do well for Xenocide. If you want to know for sure, ask Raven Squad.

ATeX
hmm, interesting I still need a few things indeed: - piano samples (Steinway, Bösendorfer, or same quality)- choir (men, women, everything u got )- solo violin But that won't be for now. I still need to save some money for those Anyways, great to have someone who works with the same kind of stuff

Ghormak
I have the Edirol HQ Orchestra VST. It's not as good as those linked in the first post (the Bach tunes with the Vienna Symphonic Library knocked me unconscious with their awesomeness), but I think the sound quality will be enough for this project. I'll try to come up with some examples as soon as I can so you can hear.
syncope
youre right theyre unbelievable... i got the vsl now for 2 weeks and im still lightyears away from this kind of output anyway, if you need somthing... greetingsmax
ATeX
Yep, Bach was one of the very best composers. We'll never reach the level of contrapoint he could handle. So many voices, so correctly placed. That guy was just a genius. The sound on the other hand, I think we can manage to get that level, but it'll take some excersise
Whitewashed
Bach is great!
Ghormak
Thought I should show you approximately what my music will sound like when I finally get some done, heh. So I made this snippet from "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (by Bach, surprise surprise!) and, well... the song itself is not suitable for Xenocide, but I hope the sound is. That's what I want you to judge. http://www.agagames.com/ghormak/temp/orchestral.ogg
ATeX
well, it's very nice, but it could be better done because it still sounds a bit too digital, especially because it's a classical piece. When playing classical, it's very very hard to get a good sounding interpretation of the piece. But the samples sound indeed very good
Ghormak
Heh, yeah, that was kind of my point. It was a rush job, so the "performance" is very synthetic, but these samples mixed with some guitar/drums/electronica should be just fine, no?
