Can someone please upload or point me in the direction of the icon file with the alien hand (GillMan or Aquatoid?), like the box art. Doesn't the DOS version use that?.

I've checked my Steam version of X-COM UFO Defense. It is DOS version wrapped in DosBox, there is no icon file there.

Thanks for checking Fomka. I'm using the Collector's Edition of both X-COM1 and 2, and they both use the same icon, the blue Sectoid face.

if you want sectoid blue icon
you can use any icon extractor on your .exe
as I did some time ago

or ... simpler way ( .exe blue icon only ^_^ )
just give me your e-mail and I will send it to you as attachment :)
.ico ( 16x16 ) size is 1.37kB
.bmp ( 32x32 ) 1.37kB
.bmp ( 16x16 ) 630 bytes

I used GIMP to convert from picture format to .ico file
cause it has everything that is needed to do the job
( windooze photoshop or similiar programs should work too )

so ... in theory
you could take a photo of terror box ( from google or do it by yourself )
and do the conversion by hand

happy GIMPing :)

well ....
I did some quick goole searching ( graphics )

but pictures I found are of poor quality
when converted to .ico files ( pictures themselves are good enougch )

that is probably why they used this blue icon instead ^_^

I'll download the TFTD demo, I'm pretty sure it uses that icon. If not, I guess I'll just create it myself.

BTW, you can add an attachment to a post, so there's no need to send an e-mail.

Thank you Yarrow, but I'm already using that icon. I wanted the TFTD icon from the original DOS version with the alien hand.

Edit: Added picture

Much appreciated Yarrow, but I created the icon with Irfanview. I was hoping someone had the icon without the text.

you know ... you should consider learning GIMP
( or photoshop or paint shop pro or similiar programs )

instead of wasting your time only playing XCOM :D :D

here they are
no text version ( both .bmp and .ico )
- 16x16
- 32x32
- 64x64

again everything is 8bpp ( 256 indexed colors )

That icon can even be used as a cursor image, if flipped horizontally ^_^
