Whatever happened to the ufo2000 pager?
Is there a place where I can find the most up-to-date version, or has it stopped being updated and disappeared?

Well, ufo2000 pager is a third party tool with sources not available. We can't do anything about it, if its author (Skybuck) lost interest in developing the pager, the pager is dead, sorry. When we change server protocol (for implementing reliable way of restoring broken connections for example), the existing version of the pager will not be able to connect the server at all. That's a disadvantage of closed sources development model.

By the way, we also had several third party closed source tools for editing ufo2000.ini file and also one map editor (not daishiva's :) ), they all are now dead too (for the same reason).

But you can just connect to the server and minimize the window. If anybody connects to the server you will hear sound signal. The only drawback is that the game connected to the server uses more memory than the pager, but I hope that for most of us it is not a problem. If you miss some other features of the pager, let's discuss them here, maybe it will be possible to add them to the game.

There were a few things I liked about the pager. I'll try to list them:
- Small taskbar icon
- Cool alert sound when a player comes online (the alert music from the ufo intro) / customisable sound
- Low memory usage
- Small and convient window for chat.

I guess if you were looking into ways to just improve what we have, then the main thing is a customisable sound (which maybe you can already do?).

(and off topic: Those 'smilies' on the side of the reply box are as annoying as all heck! And they are making my typing cursor thing flicker...)

I was thinking of writing an IRC bot that would function as a bridge between ufo2k and IRC, but I suppose there is only a point in doing that if anyone actually uses the IRC channel.

You can download beta 8(released 24 april 2004) here: http://www.xcomufo.c...l=ufo2000 pager

You have to change server address, seems like it still works?...

I tried it out a little just now, makes my computer crash if I start ufo2000 and login while the
pager is logged in but it works fine if I exit the pager before i run the game.
