NOTE : this was when the savedgame was still in 'beginner' difficulty!

tried it out myself now : 3 missions so far
  • large scout at day : 1 wounded (meaning I won't get him back, they disappear next mission :whatwhat: )
  • 1 medium scout at night : no losses
  • 1 terror mission at day : no losses, 5 civs rescued, 5 killed
these missions were all against floaters (in case you were wondering why I had so few casualties, especially the terror mission), and without loading.
interceptor 2 is already out of stingrays :o and has to rely on cannons <_< . Interceptor 1 is just staying where he is, I'm unable to give him orders :cussing:
my end of the month summary was 'excellent' so I guess it's going well so far :) although ammo is dropping rapidly...

edit : I put 'medium scout' where it should be 'large scout' and 'small scout' where it should be 'medium scout'. Fixed.
edit2 : damnit, that list thing won't work properly : I put : [ list=1 ] but once I come back it says [ list= ] :cussing:

NOTE : these games are with 8 soldiers on superhuman difficulty!

I decided to give this one another go :) . With images to fulfill the needs of the latest rage  . And using random chanjmap maps...

recently found out how I could alter the setting from beginner to superhuman in the savedgame, so it's a LOT harder than my first attempts...

here comes the first UFO, a medium scout, after wasting 3 stingrays intercepting it, it outrunned the interceptor and decided to land  ,plus the skyranger arrived in full night. :crying:

so I get out of the skyranger, nothing but darkness. In a few turns, half the squad gets slaughtered trying to get away from the skyranger, even tho they are covered by smoke. After some more turns I manage to get a guy into the UFO (which is actually right next to the skyranger) armed with an autocannon, killin two aliens with one autoshot, and trying to kill of the last one, but even tho the bullet hits, the floater's still alive and I don't have TU's to retreat from the UFO (It wasn't much safer outside anyway <_< )

luckily, it seems the floater was unarmed :devillaugh: . One bit of luck, but in the meantime I had only 2 guys left :( , who were still able to kill the last two floaters without further casualties -_-

next up, large UFO appears. Oh, wait, lemme guess, a terror ship? :whatwhat:
Well, just before it lands (my interceptors can't harm it), I get my monthly report : excellent. Yay!

And then the terror ship lands in Afrika, shortly followed by the skyranger, who, once again, lands in full night :cussing: . Hey, at least I've got lots of equipment  (which the game doesn't seem to handle very good, the backpack section with the RL also contains +/- 10 rifles :) )
edit: this is due to xcomutil

After playing a while, lots of floaters dead and one of my guys alive anymore.. And she's wounded too. (no fatal wounds though, so I have all the time I need) Only problem is that grenades are used and those damn dogs won't die easily with rifle. I have to get back near the skyranger to get more ammo and grenades from dead guys but dogs have surrounded me!

Managed to kill one more dog with rifle but I have only 4 shots left and more dogs are running from differen directions.. I turn back and am planning to go around the building back to skyranger. I see a floater floating far away, I have TU's for one snapshot, fire, hit, not dead.. End of turn and end of game.. :( I took a screenshot from mission briefing screen but accidently I seem to have pushed "print screen" button, not the F12 so that's it. 14 aliens were killed though, that I can remember.

edit:
Means I lost to you j'ordos! Lost in first mission! :crying:

looks like I'm still ahead :happybanana: . Of course, bad luck it was a terror site. How much aliens do they have exactly? Nice fight :)

My turn again ^_^
This time a wonderfully succeeded mission with only one casualty  . medium scout@night, floaters. Farm map, and waddaya know, it's actually Stewart's favourite shanty town :) . First turn, guy gets shot by unseen alien while near the skyranger, moving in other soldiers, reaction fire comes from multiple directions, so I decide it's best to use a smoke grenade. Under that cover, this time no one gets shot, and I manage to pick off the first floater who killed my soldier :)

Then my soldiers spread over the entire map, picking off every floater effectively, apparently no alien was inside the UFO.

Didn't I tell you to equip your skyranger wisely?? :) . Although you don't have a base, you can still go to the base screen, and choose the equipment on your skyranger (if you have xcomutil, you can also assign soldiers to the interceptors). You can't buy any new equipment/soldiers/... and you can't reequip the craft weapons (after a few hours the game suddenly seems to realise you actually don't have a base and thinks there's no equipment anymore, so the weapons don't have time to rearm)

edit : you can't take every weapon on your base tho, not enough room (80 items limit), but who needs 5 pistols anyway :D

edit2 : playing some more : medium scout appears : downed above sea, terror ship appears, but does nothing :chickenrun: . Another medium scout appears, again shot down above sea  . But then : next mission up : terror site vs. floaters@day.
right at the beginning I can spot 3 aliens, 2 floaters and 1 reaper. Good thing my rocket launcher was located at front :naughty: . But the missile only kills one floater, so I take out the other floater with a rifleman, throw a grenade at the reaper, and a smoke gren. in front of the skyranger. Next turn, reaper hasn't moved, not affected by the grenade, it seems. The rifleman takes it out with two auto shots (stunned only, not death) as the rocket just might explode against the side of the skyranger.

Unfortunately, that was the end of the rocket launcher because as soon as it positions next to the wheels of the skyranger it gets shot by reaction fire :crying: . Of course I take revenge and shoot the floater with two well aimed heavy cannon AP shots :) . two other men are put at the opposing side of the skyranger and then both get shot at point blank range in their back during the alien turn  Somehow managed to miss a floater standing right behind me.
That's three man down now.

Now its time to start moving away from the skyranger, the rifleman (other two survivors carry HCs) makes for the nearest building to the second floor for some spotting. There I see 2 floaters just below. One appears to be unarmed, so I'm happy shooting the other one and getting back in cover :) . Unfortunatly, next turn the guy gets shot by reaction fire as soon as he gets near the window :( . That's down to 2 guys now... The Hcs manage to spot a floater, but the first one misses all of his shots, and the second one has HE loaded, and has a good chance of hitting the skyranger instead of the target. Still, I decide to give it a try and am now stuck with two heavily wounded soldiers : first one has 4 health left, no fatal wounds, but looking at the gray bar, he'll be unconscious next turn because of the smoke. The one who fired has enough health, but 2 fatal wounds...

Alien turn : soldier with four health gets shot, but apparently without effect, although he's now unconscious, I decide to get the other one to the cover of that house my rifleman was. Alien turn, a few floaters fire at my HCer, only destroying walls :) . i move the HC soldier a bit farther, and immediatley spot a floater. My two HE rounds manage to miss, and I get shot afterwards...

Thus ends another attempt at two missions.

Now that I know I can re-equip the skyranger in the beginning, I desided to give it another go..

First mission: Small crash landed floater ufo at night. (I don't know why I went there at night)

First turn went fine.. There were no camperfloaters near skyranger defending when I walked down the ramp, but there was a floater further away. I was surprised I saw that far! He died from autocannon autoshot.
I arranged my soldiers around the skyranger in beautiful circle style positions and pushed hidden movement.. Nothing happened except a sound of on farmhouse door. I saw the ufo so I desided to send two guys there right away. I had rocket launcher woman in front of skyranger and heavy cannon HE man under the skyranger waiting for action. I scouted outside and saw 2 floaters, other was killed by rocket launcher, other survived direct hit from HC HE ammo :o Lucky me the alien was so far away he didn't react. I finished him with rifle. In next alien turn floater came too close that HC HE guy under the skyranger and got reaction fired by that heavy cannon and died. Next my turn I went to the ufo and saw only corpses and one live floater. I had enough time units to walk right next to him and shoot autofire.

After losing almost everyone, I finaly had wiped out aliens outside and it was time to get into the ufo.. Haa! Nicely destroyed and I immediatly see floater facing in the wrong direction! Lucky day! Autoshot blamblamblam, missmissmiss, "boom" sniper floater from somewhere in the darkness kills my soldier. :crying:

My last soldier bravely walks through the door. What do you know, he sees floater 2 squares away and manages to kill him with autoshot. I get back outside and wait for turn.. Ufo door voice scares me 'cause I'm sure it's the last thing I hear but no, it's my turn again. I walk through the door again and see floater with heavyplasma looking straight at me. I know I have to shoot him, he reacts if I walk away and he reacts if I don't kill him with autoshot. Good luck my soldier hits him twice and kills the floater. Victory is at hand! I push the hidden movement button but :whatwhat: it wasn't the last! I'm inside the ufo when suddenly a floater with small launcher walks in (so I didn't kill them all outside) He does nothing but turns back and goes outside. I follow him at my turn and have plenty of timeunits to kill him. Mission over! I won j'ordos and have one or two soldiers at next mission!! (If that sleeping beauty is coming to next mission? :happybanana:

I took one of them at ufo right away since it was right next to my skyranger.. I saw one floater outside and killed him with rocket. The man at the ufo managed to kill one inside and one in front of ufo before he got killed. At this point I desided to try camping tactic. My 2 last soldiers at a farmhouse waiting if they would come there.. (The rocket woman is upstairs at the window..)

I have one more soldier for one more mission!! Eat that j'ordos!
By the way, not much of those buggers here.. I'm surprised.

4th mission: Floater terror site at day time. One soldier left. I desided to ignore the screams of civilians and stay at the skyranger waiting for them all to walk in my trap. Only problem was those two floaters waiting there already, one of them even facing me so I cannot move or shoot without gettin' reactioned.

I shotted an autoshot, one shot hitted but didn't kill the bugger so he reactioned, lucky me he missed all three shots. Now I thought it was safe to move and I went a little back, pushed hidden movement, and next my turn primed smoke grenade and threw it out.. All the time I saw those 2 floaters. I waited one more turn and still they were there so I killed the other one with autoshot..

LOL! But I can see how many soldiers you lost in those missions in total if you attach the mission score screen shots. You can't cheat! :D
Well, if you want to skip trying to brake my record and start competing with 14 soldiers, I'm ready! Bring it on, make the first move. :ok:

well, after a few failed attempts a breaking your record, I decided to try it with 14 men instead :chickenrun: . Don't think you've won tho (yet)

first up : large scout in jungle terrain@night (again vs. floaters)

Seems like a good occasion to load my 3 aoutocannons with IC rounds :devilburn:
after a few turns the terrain was almost like at day :)

Then I advanced very carefully through the terrain killing every floater outside just losing one guy :) . Once I enter the UFO, I immediately spot a floater, all my 3 shots miss, and my guy is killed by reaction fire... 2 new soldiers pop in and finish that bastard off :D . Then they split each going one direction (the UFO is still intact). one more alien is in the control room, killed with ease, but, as I lign up the men to storm the 'power room' a floater comes by and kills one of my soldiers before getting reaction fired. I don't know if I killed him tho, but right after that another floater fires a stun bomb luckily not affecting my remaining soldier. Then I enter the room and kill the stunner.

then yet again, a small scout in jungle terrain vs. floaters@dawn.

at start I am COMPLETELY surrounded by floaters. I shot 4 in the first turn alone, bringing out the entire skyranger to kill 'em all (half of them shooting 2 floaters located on top of each other :) can't tell just how many times those rookies managed to miss there  ) The last one was located in the UFO, who still managed to kill one of my men, and another one was killed by friendly fire :(

next up : ANOTHER small scout at night in jungle terrain vs. floaters. :zzzzz:

I now have run out of smoke grenades :o . Guess I should've taken some more with me... Without the extra cover (quite needed at night) I have a bit harder time, but luckily the UFO is very close to the skyranger, providing some cover (where I don't have to be afraid a floater might still see me I mean, jungle has cover enough :) ) First one gets killed when entering the UFO throwing an armed prox. grenade killing 3 floaters :) . Then comes the hard part : finding the hidden floaters in the dark  . Lost another 2 men but mission completed...

Then I didn't pay much attention shooting down craft : accidentialy put the interceptor on aggressive attck against a terror ship, just as it shot I realised my mistake  . Luckily still managed to retreat :) . The terror ship decides to leave me alone and the next mission is another small scout at night, but this time versus sectoids :) . Too bad I don't have a lot of men anymore, so there's no hope on succeeding...

Well, then again, maybe you weren't lucky at all :sly:  . No, sounds like fun, will have to reinstall it first then, tho :) . Come to think of it, doesn't the UFO2000 forum need a 'missions' forum too? :D

edit : other possibility is using xcomutil to 'swap' alien and human units and play multiplayer that way.

I have ufo 2000 and we have played it hotseat with one of my friends.. I tried that TCP/IP button to see what happens. I got the screen where you choose to make a server and I presume the other one is for joining existing server (no info text there). Well anyway pushing the server takes me to this screen where it says "accept" and stays there for I don't know how long! So I don't know is it a good thing or a bad thing. What SHOULD it do? It does SOMETHING though because it's like:

accept.........................

and more points are coming each second or every other second or so..
like

start: accept.
after 1 second: accept..
after 2 seconds: accept...
after 3 seconds: accept....
after 9 seconds: accept..........

Well you get my point..

Here's how I think it works : the other button you speak of is for the client. So, the first player uses the 'server' button. Then he waits for the other player to join (so the accept... stays there until someone joins.)

It's the system which automatically obtains a random available IP address.. I don't have a solid IP address. If I would like one, I'd had to pay extra for the operator. Again I remember there's a dos command to check the IP but I don't remember what it was..

edit:
Ah, found it.. Now I'm ready to host the game.
