  2. Okay, two things: Firstly, it's probably a good idea to focus just on the Field Manual for now. Other manuals can come later - though personally, I think they'd be more difficult to due just because of lack of related "real-life" material. Secondly, the first "edition" of the Field Manual won't cover specific tactics for UFO / base assaults in depth, just general tactics as practiced by participant nations - because this seems a lot more accomplishable, and there's always room to expand upon what's been written - once we have a base. Got me?
  3. I've been leaning towards that the whole time I've been working on this thing. Mainly because all the Army FMs I've found are in PDF format... 'sides, it's more compact, really. I'd appreciate it, indeed.

Well, I'd say one for geoscape, and one for battlescape (assuming we also add geoscape stuff?), then some subcategories, which are a bit harder... -UFO recovery -terror sites -base assault -base defence -... ? Actually, give me a bit and I'll get the "to do list" posted. I have to find it, is all.

  6. Motion Detectors are invaluable. So is "Get your guys behind cover" and "Camping on the UFO roof, just in front of the door, with a kneeling Heavy Plasma guy in a Flying Suit." Oh, and put your guys a bit further away, so the alien doesn't see them as it exits the UFO. XComutil's sort function might help with the "Commander gets killed on the ramp" thing. I mean, it's stupid to have your high-ranking officers RIGHT where they're most likely to get killed immediately, no?
  7. How do kneeling and arm wounds fit in there? I know kneeling increases the accuracy, but I'm not quite sure about wounding... Oh, and do you know anything about how blast damage is calculated? Distance from explosion, armour, terrain damage, and how they fit together?
  8. Hmm. You wouldn't happen to have formulas for how the game calculates accuracy and suchlike, would you? [Now has that entire file in quarter-page booklet form]
  9. I wonder... if you MC an MC'd trooper, would he count as MIA? And I hate BBs fired into my ships, and especially hate ones that smack into the sides of the craft near the front, killing my high-ranking psis...

  12. Are you going to give the troopers nationalities as well? Or just names?
  13. Hey, what's wrong with giving the soldiers voices? Just make them "reaction" things - maybe showing state of mind? If one has low bravery, for example, and sees an alien, maybe a muttered "Ah, shuckeroonies"? But, of course, you'd have to have an option for turning trooper sounds off... [side note: I'd be interesting if the sounds for power/flying armor (or their replacements) would be garbled, like with sattelite phones. But that doesn't really jive with the date of the game, you could always use the Clancy-esque stuff...]
  14. Question! Uh, wouldn't the exploding grenade shower kissing couple with shrapnel? IMO, glowing alien instrument > being torn apart by shrapnel...
