X-Com versus Chess

The early adaptor of Turn-based games, like X-com is Chess.

A small story, generalised, cuz (made-)reality from past has always more factors to incalculate, is more complicated.

Chess was from origin a substitute for especial Kings, Emperors and their so-called 'civilised' equalied players and/or their home-made 'slaves', or servants, which sounds more civilised. So the Emperor Himself would not evolved, victim in their 'daily' business, "WAR", fighting in battlefield, attacking their so-called enemies. I assume, imagine, that it was at that time also possible to bet who was able to 'win'/ 'lose'. The stake could be from King's weared ring to their daughters hand, a piece of land, etc.. The stake could be very high, if the opponent lose the chess-party they could be decapited, the opponent could lose status, land, family's enslaved. So what did the sneaky opponent at that time do? He, rarely seldom a she at that time, but the history will change & adapt, ... So, He, the Sneaky Opponent started using his grey cells, his mind, brains, ... and the 'brave' one noted his moves .... When the King at first discovered that His Slavery Opponent was not only using his brains during the time the Game was going on, BUT also was thinking and doing, (thinking is also 'acting', but 'k') about the moves for future games beforehand while washing his dishes, cleaning his Majestical Clothes, whatever the Majestical Dictator told the other intelligent living being todo, . ....

the first opponent was deheaded at once ..... with No Opponent left, the King died soon Himself in 'real', physical Battlefield, .... preparing, training, trying to find an equal opponent, ....

His Son noticed and adapted, ... he spared the lives of His opponents and hired Himself a lot of (LOL) (software) developpers, who came first with first other BordGames, like "Stratego", "Risk" and finally "X-Com". But before X-Com was released the Son of the Old be slained King, who was to impatient probably, to make some more rules. The Game, Chess needed a clock, so while the 'strategical' part was on-going, the circumstances would be more equal. For chess their is still a dedicated clock for official matches. More (improved) rules were introduced to Balance the Game, if played in direct contact with opponents, like how to describe the noted moves (a2-a3 = pion moves 1 turn; Ke8*f7). Noting moves in Chess can be compared with saving, loading in X-Com, with each save, u 'note' several small steps, see my posts in the "Do u save/load a lot?" and my thought about it furhter in this post.

Chess became, was and is, a tool to use, to think about future moves. To think emotional logic what can be expected from the opponent and the player him/herself. Nowadays happily so, the other gender may play games too. To think emotional logic means, with stomache, heart and brain, it is more then only rational thinking, it includes also what is going on, outside the Box, filled with grey cells.

....

Some turned moves further

.....

Nowadays some players find Chess boring. In this time we, or at least some, need a more 'acting, attracting' envrionment. The core of both games (X-Com-Chess) are the same. To expand, to use our brains to think about possible future moves. The challenge and stake for humans and humankind has also been changed. It is a growing worldwide awareness we cant take the lives of others so easily. So we, as humans, play more games, to think more well and more furtherahead, about what the possible consequencies will, could be of our thoughts and moves.

In X-com there are in at alone the tactical mission itself, more possible outcomes, then what probably was, is possible in Chess.

Playing X-Com in Ironman-mode, is in my opinion, for me, playing like that Old Dead King, when he trained, prepared himself with sword and shield for a next Mental Game, Match in a himself created physical environment, with more victims then only himself, ...

The goal of the game is to PLAY the game.

... u lose ....

if u choice in life not to play anylonger,

I mean, for this Game, X-Com, u 'win' the battle, if uv researched MindControl.

Maybe even u will lose 'The War', against others, if u proceed from that point.

With 'MindControl' ur able to control the mind of others, the aliens in this game, X-Com.

Its a physical device in the X-Com games. However, its a mental tool outside that Box.

Outside X-Com, turn-based games, ICT-games, there are more kind of games.

The Game Of Love as example, also decribed as the War Of Love, depending on how the feel in that kind of relationship is, ... ; )

With 'own' Mindcontrol, we are able to choose for a more playable lifestyle.

In X-Com, the aliens become month after month more hostile, more challenging to beat, if choosing to continue, ...

Maybe the toughest tool ingame is to research, to manufacture And to learn how to use the ...

"MotionScanner"

Where stand, is, the Other?"

......

more thoughts I could share, ...

However its my 50th birthday and soon I will be picked up,

have fun with playing ur game and life,

:-)

Chess have an advantage of good dedicated AI. The problem is that it's because chess can be won by memorizing various sequences of moves and counter moves.

A game like X-Com not only doesn't have as much research of moves behind it but also has much more possibilities of moves and their combination and different units which makes programming an AI for it much more difficult.

Therefore it's impossible for X-Com to have an AI that would be a good representation of the alien.

ehm, ....

Chess was there, long before there were computers. Core of the X-Com-program ((and (chess)-software-programs too)) are based upon that ancient game, Chess. As humankind grows, so their 'made' programs and tools to 'self'-learn too. In X-Com its indeed more hard to calculate the moves and turns as it is for the chess-sw-programs. There are mainframes especially designated, developped to calculate the moves, turns for the chess-sw-program. I guess when u take the time, when time isn't the issue to play, a lot can and will be calculated by human and the AI sw-programs in X-Com. Humans have their, are running, their 'own' (software) programs. I guess the 'Logic' of calculating moves, turns will be not only enough to have the experience for the fun to play ...

My thought about Chess and with that X-Com and any other game, is that it will give individuals and humankind possibilities to learn more about themselfes as well as the other, the Alien.

ehm, ....

I was here at the forums to upload a file, with graphics, prtscrns about how I play X-Com (as if it was an extended Chess-Game). As also written in the file at some point, it did 'cost' me about 1 week of my live, its an unusual kind of playing, but playing the game this way, will give me the satisfaction for to play.

Nothing I hate so more when the other part dictates me to hurry my thoughts and with that the turns, moves, I want todo in a thinking-game, depending on what has been agreed with each other before the game was started. I 'know' how to play chess, but I don't like the external clock ticking and dictating the time for internal thoughts. Its possible in X-Com to 'play' with the external and internal time. And in tactical mode, ingame (external) time isn't the issue at all, ... from that point, where the tactical mission start, the internal clock (that of the 'own' heart, body and mind) has the control. There is still the external clock of today's society, I mean for most of the (X-Com-)players, with a job, family, bed, food and so on. The internal clock of some humans, ages ago had taken some time to make a game where they could engage the other, instead of slaughtering them on a battlefield. That process, that game, that program of how to learn from each other hasn't changed, hasn't ended yet, ; -) .

And for X-Com, "No I don't want humans get transformed into a dead floater', see prtscrn 8. But on the other hand, the scenario raised in the movie Avatar, where humanrace is about to extinct a complete other race, with taking over their planet, is also not so beneficial for live, including humankind-live, ...

The uploaded file is in 'raw' form. I mean I can use the saved file also for other occasions. For here I could be a 'bit' more detailed, excact to describe some parts for some of the prtscreens. ALike, as to point out where Iv directed Commander, Colonel, Captain, what the blue 'dots' are, etc, tactical part, ... But also why I use save/load a lot, and why I think warfare is mostly an escalated situation of not taking the time, not listening to the other party, to have some patience for dialogue's ... Chess was, is, a major step in/for humankind to learn to think outside the Box. With 'programs' like Chess and X-Com its possible to sharpen the brain of ourselves. The future of humans and for humankind depends on how we want to think, how we use our 'sharpened brains and a further step in acting (thinking is also an act) based upon those thoughts, ...

For the tactical:

As a kind of summary I can say its a terrorship with Snakeman and thus with their accompanying Chryssalids. With training their Throwing Accuracy I believe its possible to create a solid team, capable of handling all kind of situations. However it takes also (lots of) time, ...

In Dutch there is the saying: One picture can say more then 1000 words. So its perhaps possible for others what Im trying to say, to do, ...

ehm soon, within 15-90 minutes, I will be picked up to meet somebody Ivn't met before, living in an other party of my country. A bit like me, he has also 'Syndrome of Asperger', a form of 'Autisme', 'our' brain slightly differs from that of others, we think more in pictures. It takes more RAM-(Random Access Memory)time to make such pictures, ...

...

K, Iv just received the SMS-message more detailed when I will be picked up, so Iv to 'change' even more my brains to the upcoming meeting and to end these thoughts here, ...

have a nice day, :-)
