I've seen the site and I would like to offer some comments concerning the background/story.

1) Contemporary figures. I'd say it would be best not to use or mention real persons on the news/background, like the article on Rumsfeld's comments on China. Nowadays there's a lot of discussion concerning world leaders, with some being quite controversial and it would be best to prevent getting into that.

2) Time period. X-COM took place on 1999 but it seems that the RP is nowadays. Which one is exactly? This matters because of another subject: the current international situation and how it can be mentioned on news stories. If the 1999 setting is chosen, then it would be possible to have an alternate reality (US and China going head to head over one another, no GWOT, etc.). If it is set nowadays then one can base it on the current international situation but that will require some conformity to current events.

Getting this sort out will help writers because they will have some basic guidelines about what they can include or not and also to make the story behind the RP uniform :)

3) Another thing I remembered: there's X-COM on one side and the Aliens and Sirius on the other (assuming that it is the Cult of Sirius). Why not add the Inquisitors, a radical anti-alien organization, since they are mentioned on the X-COM Apocalypse timeline and they fought the Cult of Sirius and lost?

So, how does the game determine both sides? If say that only one person has a -X- in their name, how would the game state the other team was (say -x- lost, who won then?)

Ive been trying to come up w/ a better explaination and some background.

So far this the most simple explainatin for the way that other people participate in the game; all they do is play UFO2000.

The way that we know they are trying to participate, is that they must add a prefix to their name of either X, A, or S. (X means they are playing as X-Com, A = aliens, S = sirius)

If there is a match where only 1 player has a prefix, we consider it a non-eventful battle, meaning there is no BIG change in power.

The battles between an -X-player and an -A-player can have BIG changes in power: from changing the control of a particular nation, to chaging the control of a base. it will even have an impact on the funding nations (most of this info is displayed on the Geoscape).

How is this fun?

Well, until now, the battles in UFO2000 don't have any impact other than your personal record. What my initial intentions were at creating UFORP, was to create a sense of realism within the game that we all felt when we played X-COM: UFO.

We will at times cite commander's names from a particular battle in a news story, and they will soon be able to have a visual representation of where the battle was, the outcome, and the effect of that outcome (all this information will be represented on the Geoscape map with clickable events that bring up information).

So how is it fun? Well because who you play, how you play, and when you play all effect this grand "game" that is portrait as a new information database, the IID.

When reading the articles and viewing the information on the IID, dont just read it to see whats there, Role Play, put your self in a mindset that what your reading are actual events, peolple are actually afraid, actually dieing, and Aliens are actually invading the Earth.

Fell the tension when playing UFO2000, that if you loose, you may be giving up a criticial base of operations for X-COM, or you might be defending the last foothold the Aliens have on the Earths Surface.

Pretend that you are a fanatic, and truly believe that the Aliens are here to save humankind, Suicide bomb X-COM units in the name of salvation, and worthis the Alien gods from above.

The fate of the world rests on YOUR shoulders.
You have three options:
-Defend it
-Invade it
-Fight for salvation

Which will you choose?

Annnnny other questions?

Do people like it?

Is it missing something?

Is it useless?

There is not much of a point to putting in the effort if the effort is not directed on something that people benefit from.

The goal of the site is to enhance the community and get people excited about more than just playing UFO2000 w/out requiring a lot of time and effort on the players part.

Does it do that?

if not, then how can it?

I appreciate your efforts, though I do not play much anymore, so can't provide useful feedback as a player. But if you need some help or need some features implemented in the game (for example, more convenient battle results information representation), don't hesitate to ask. Also I can provide some information and a link to your page on http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net to attract more attention.

New Name::

The UFO2000 Experience:
(Emerse yourself in the world of X-COM)

New theory, Hobbes may be right. A uniform time-frame needs to be established.

It is quite obvious that the UFO2kE (as i dub it here) will not follow the main timeline of the X-COM series.

This means that the Aliens might win this one.

The question of the starting date has been made. and with that, the use of actual names and likeness of real people from todays political world.

It is easy to simply bumb the timeline of x-com up 6 years, so that the events unfold in the year 2005-2006 instead of 1999-2000

It was my first intention to fuse the real world of today with the imaginary world of x-com to create a more realistic experience.

Opinions are welcome.

The 5 man sqaud games go quite quickly so you may want to combine a few into one larger story.(otherwise the sheer amount of headlines you may have to write will be overwhelming) And as for the headlines XCOM never successfully killed the alien leader....:(....but we did track him at least. Ah, next time then.

The goal isnt to write an article about every battle, just the ones of importance.

As these games have been played, they can be combined into basicly 2 articles:

First the alien encounter,

and the secound would be the fight with Sirius.

This allows for more detailed and "rich" articles that give a lot of explaination rather then a bunch of short ones that give only part.

In addition to articles, "Battle Reports" are an option.

These would be available to read on the military page. (RP aspect: they are intended to only be read by military officials)

I have compiled two battle reports, but I think i mis interperted the data from the battles somewhat.

WRITERS: Please check the writers page for updates and an example of a battle report.

This could be developed into Ufo2000 technology as a side version.

Whenever a battle takes place (in Roleplay mode and not freeform mode, which would just be U2K), you play as either humans, aliens, or cult of sirus humans (recoloured human models?). The ammount of weapons the humans will get to work with would depend on the military strength in the region. The aliens weaponry possibilities will be based on their activity in the area. The cult would get weapons points from how many sucessful missions they've made that month.

Humans can set missions in alien territory, and aliens can set missions in human territory. You can't take missions all the way inside the core of the aliens, but only on the outskirts, with borders to the human area. When you put a mission, you will automaticly win it, if no challanger appears within a certain ammount of time. Sirus would a bit special, as they can take missions in all of the human sectors, not outskirted by the aliens. So they can't put it in a force to weaken human terretories for the aliens.

So, when a battle has taken place, depending on the outcome (how many of the winning team is still alive), it will increase or decrease the ammount of human control in the sector. If it falls below 25%, it's alien territory. If it's above 75%, it's alien territory. If any between, it's counted as a neutral zone, where all players can put up missions.
So this will be a Megamultiplayer version of the wargames.

Every player has his or her founds, and can buy equiptment from it. He or she will get money on a daily basis. Humans will get founded by the diffrent sectors, and the more active you are in one sector, the more you get. The cult of sirus isn't based on the diffrent sectors, but will get depending on how well you've done in this month. The alien players will get money depending on how many successfull missions they've put up, and therefore not counted on defence. No player have bases of operation - it's not targetable either.

Any weaponry, founding and other player-specific stats would be cleaned monthly (except the indiviuals score boards), to allow newer players to get a chance. The world map will stay the same, though.

What do you guys think? Is this feasable?

The armies of the Cult of Sirius form loose battle groups comprised of several different (yet deadly) types of soldiers.

Fanatic (Close Combat Specialist)
Cultist (Standard Soldier)
Convert (Support Soldier)
Zealot (Varying Specialty Soldier)

Proven soldiers may be granted a title due to their service to the cause.

Reverend of Battle (Leader of a battle group)
Chosen One (Heavy Weapon Specialist)
Blessed One (Heavy Weapon Specialist)

No names of 'ranking' soldiers available. Turnover in the Cult is extremely high due to the hazardous nature of encounters with XCOM.

No, it worked, because when I used Internet Explorer (which I don't use normally, so I didn't load the site with it before) I could see the version of November the 20th.
But with your regular browser, once you opened the flash site you will get the same site every time you revisit it, unless you delete the browsers cache - at least that worked for Firefox. I officially have no clue why it didn't work for IE... Sorry...
@ JoeJoe: Maybe you could think of a possibility to tell the users browser that there is a new version and it shouldn't use the one in cache. AFAIR for HTML there is a command for this...

I'd definately play Inquisitors, if not I'll be X-Com :)

Although the Inquisitors would have a rough time.. their doctrine says that they have to destroy nearly all Alien technology.

Kinda neat, ive gotten a bunch of messages about ufo2ke.

It has unfortunitly stalled, yet we can revive it at any time.

Ill look into it, maybe change up a few things.

why not make this idea into a single player campaign for ufo2k? then you can make it multiplayer in the future.
