i think that there sould be civi planes getting chased by UFO's, you could go help them, or let them get shot, that wouldent be very nice, but then the aliens would land at the crash site and try to get prisoners, you could then go there and take em out and help the civis, you could set a trap, an emptie 747 gets shot down, aliens land, wounder whats going on, then you land a murder them all and steal there stuff, a new way to get eleriam

Hmm, sounds interesting. Basically a slightly similar version of the shipping lane missions in TFTD (no - not a two-parter!), but one that moves and one that may generate a variant of an ordinary terror mission if the plane is shot down or crash lands (assuming the plane crashes safely - unless the UFOs have a sort of tractor beam thingy that can always lower an airplane to the ground safely - or force it down without having to damage it at all)

I like it, it seems like a more aggressive abduction mission rather than a terror mission. Though I suppose there's no difference to the ones being targetted :)

If the thoughts I had in the other thread about MiBs giving you data in order to sometimes be able to land at a terror site just before it happens is a possibility, this mission type would be a nice work around. Traditional terror sites in cities is cool because you know it'll happen on a location that's plainly on the map (if you do get a MiB heads up about it, you can prepare somewhat), whereas this mission above means they can happen anywhere...which is also cool. This one is purely random where the traditional terror site might be a 50/50 split in terms of arriving before the aliens hit a city.

Or maybe docking with the UFO that's in flight that's docked to the plane! :o

j/k

But it would make a nice change, to have terror missions on aircraft. Also, shipping, TFTD style, but with less biodrones and Tasoth. :x

well actually, since Airlines are affiliated with a government, the military would be obligated to protect them, so you would have MiGs and F-16s intercepting the aliens as well

Exo, I'd like to see docking ships in the game, but I'd prefer it be in space. Sort of like gaining an extra mission type the more advanced your science gets as far as ship to ship engagements.

This was in an episode of the X-Files. The aliens docked with the airplane, and opened the door, but then the aliens got shot down by some F-15s and the airplane still had the door open and and went down too.

I like the ufos shooting down civilian craft. The rest of it I don't care for.

It would be cool to get a message "Flight 348 is under attack by unknown forces, requesting assistance"
The various military forces would respond, but avengers are a little quicker.

How long could it possibly take for a UFO to shoot down a slow civilian plane or jumbo jet? Seriously, it just takes one plamsa shot to a 747 and everyone inside is history. You couldn't possibly get interceptors there in time to be of any help.

There are some old stories about UFOs flying over and electronics being shut down. Alien EMPs could force down aircraft and terror missions could ensue surrounding the mostly undamaged plane. This would be an element that could only realistically manifest in the battlescape on the ground though, and wouldn't be much different from any other terror mission.

...or, I suppose you could be given data on the flight paths of aircraft all around the world, and you could try to reach UFOs before they even come close to anything on the geoscape. Considering the number of aircraft always in flight around the world, this doesn't seem practical to me.
