Sorry if theres allredy a post about this, if there is i could'nt find it.

I have downloaded milkshape 3d in hope of contributing to the 3d art. I played around with it a bit, did the plane tutorial that came with it.
i have heard that max3d is a good program to, and i might try it out since it has the x,y,z planes in the ordinary mathematical direction.
Whats the best alternative?
And is there some good tutorials i should do out there?
i want to learn this stuff.

Take a look for the CS Girl Tutorial for Milkshape, it's the best one out there and goes into plenty of details. Is max3D inexpensive? Milkshape costs $25 to register, IMO worth it if you like using it after 30 days. Compared to commercial apps costing hundreds it's a bargain.

I thought Milkshape fixed the swapped axes, maybe I'm mistaken. Every program differs in what it does or how it does it, so as a new person any one will give you a learning curve. The more expensive apps tend to support more features, so that could be an issue. But Milkshape was designed as a low poly modelling tool, so it fits its purpose here very well.

IMHO it's easier to build from verts and keep the face count low for an efficient model, while others prefer creating a high poly count model and then try to tweak it down. If you get used to an app either will do the job. There are free apps out there too, but tend to have even fewer features and thus you trade time for cost.

another option (especially in recent versions) is Blender. It's a little complicated to get started with but it's free and really the only downside right now is that the smoothing groups are a little funky (you can't harden a single edge, you have to do it on a per face basis)

but it's capable of exporting to a good number of formats and it has everything you need.
