Chris StarShade
It has been said that X-COM scores points and the aliens score points, but if this is the way it works you never see your 'real' score on the funding screen. Thus, I am going to say it like this: X-COM score plus-points and the aliens score minus-points. Here is the full list of all scoring: +points:UFO Crash Lands Small Scout: 50 Medium Scout: 75 Large Scout: 125 Harvester: 250 Abductor: 250 Terror Ship: 500 Battleship: 700 Supply Ship: 400 UFO Destroyed (includes battleships destroyed by base defenses) Small Scout: 100 Medium Scout: 150 Large Scout: 250 Harvester: 500 Abductor: 500 Terror Ship: 1000 Battleship: 1400 Supply Ship: 800 Aliens Killed: Floater Soldier: 12 Floater Navigator: 14 Floater Medic: 16 Floater Engineer: 18 Floater Leader: 25 Floater Commander: 35 Sectoid Soldier: 10 Sectoid Navigator: 12 Sectoid Medic: 14 Sectoid Engineer: 16 Sectoid Leader: 20 Sectoid Commander: 25 Snakeman Soldier: 15 Snakeman Navigator: 17 Snakeman Engineer: 20 Snakeman Leader: 28 Snakeman Commander: 36 Ethereal Soldier: 20 Ethereal Leader: 30 Ethereal Commander: 40 Muton Soldier: 15 Muton Navigator: 17 Muton Engineer: 19 Reaper: 25 Chrysallid: 25 Silacoid: 20 Celatid: 20 Sectopod: 30 Cyberdisc: 20 Zombie: 18 Aliens Captured: Floater Soldier: 24 Floater Navigator: 28 Floater Medic: 32 Floater Engineer: 36 Floater Leader: 50 Floater Commander: 70 Sectoid Soldier: 20 Sectoid Navigator: 24 Sectoid Medic: 28 Sectoid Engineer: 32 Sectoid Leader: 40 Sectoid Commander: 50 Snakeman Soldier: 30 Snakeman Navigator: 34 Snakeman Engineer: 40 Snakeman Leader: 56 Snakeman Commander: 72 Ethereal Soldier: 40 Ethereal Leader: 60 Ethereal Commander: 80 Muton Soldier: 30 Muton Navigator: 34 Muton Engineer: 38 Reaper: 50 Chrysallid: 50 Silacoid: 40 Celatid: 40 Sectopod: 60 Cyberdisc: 40 UFO Recovery:Alien Alloys: 1Elerium-115: 5 (per 50 units)UFO Power Source: 20UFO Navigation: 5Alien Food: 2Alien Reproduction: 2Alien Entertainment: 2Alien Surgery: 2Examination Room: 2 Alien Artifacts Recovered:(Artifacts that have been researched do not count)Heavy Plasma: 5Plasma Rifle: 4Plasma Pistol: 3Blaster Launcher: 5Small Launcher: 4Alien Grenade: 1Mind Probe: 1Ammunition: 1 Alien Corpses Recovered: Sentient Race: 5Terrorist Race: 3 Alien Base Destroyed: 500Civilian Saved at Terror Missions: 30 Research Projects: In ascending Order(*Points are scored for adding entries to UFOpedia, not all that is listed can be researched per se*)Plasma Pistol Clip: 5Plasma Rifle Clip: 6Heavy Plasma Clip: 7Laser Weapons: 10Stun Bomb: 10Laser Pistol: 10Laser Rifle: 10Heavy Laser: 10Laser Cannon: 10Laser Defenses: 15Tank/Laser Cannon: 15Motion Scanner: 20Medi-Kit: 20Psi-Amp: 20Plasma Pistol: 20Alien Grenade: 20Personal Armor: 20Power Suit: 20Flying Suit: 20Plasma Rifle: 25Mind Probe: 25Plasma Cannon: 25Fusion Ball Cannon: 25Plasma Defenses: 25Fusion Defenses: 25Grav Shield: 25Mind Shield: 25Psi-Lab: 25Hyper-Wave Decoder: 25Hovertank/Plasma: 25Hovertank/Launcher: 25Heavy Plasma: 30Small Launcher: 30UFO Power Source: 30UFO Navigation: 30UFO Construction: 30Alien Food: 30Alien Reproduction: 30Alien Entertainment: 30Alien Surgery: 30Examination Room: 30Alien Alloys: 30New Fighter Craft(Firestorm): 30New Fighter-Transporter(Lightning): 30The Ultimate Craft (Avenger): 30 Blaster Launcher: 40Elerium-115: 40Alien Autopsy: 50 apieceAlien Interrogation: 50 apiece (points awarded are based on number of UFOpedia entries unlocked, if you unlock two entries with one interrogation that is 100 points, if you unlock none that is 0 points)Alien Origins: 60The Martian Solution: 60Cydonia or Bust: 60 -Points:Craft Lost: Skyranger: -200 Interceptor: -250 Firestorm: -250 Lightning: -300 Avenger: -400 X-COM Soldier Killed/MIA: -20HWP Destroyed: -20Civilian Killed by Aliens: -30Civilian Killed by X-COM: -50 UFO Flies over Earth: -1UFO lands: -2Alien Base Built: -50Each Day Alien Base Operates on Earth (per base) -5Terror Site Ignored by X-COM: -1000Country withdraws from project: -150Alien Harvest Mission Successful: -30Alien Abduction Mission Successful: -50 That is a fairly exhaustive list of all scoring considerations. You should note that there are exploits that can aid against some of the real point-takers, such as ignoring a terror site. If you land and then immediately take-off from a Terror Site, you generally lose between 270 and 400 points instead of 1000 because the game only counts the 'Civilians Killed by Aliens' in that case. In general, score affects your overall funding. The higher your score, the better. Do note, however, that if you score is below -900(Beginner), -800(Experienced), -700(Veteran), -600(Genius), or -500(Superhuman) for two months in a row you automatically lose the game. (Not to mention your funds will have really sunk by then). Speaking of which, could someone confirm whether or not the project is cancelled if all the funding nations withdraw from the project? SupSuper
wow, biiig list there. Speaking of which, could someone confirm whether or not the project is cancelled if all the funding nations withdraw from the project?i can confirm it. if all countries widthraw from the project, it's obvious that the project has been cancelled (no matter how much we can live without their funding) edit: btw, in the research projects list, you're missing the Blaster Bomb (ammo for Blaster Launcher). Chris StarShade
Are you sure, though? As in, have you tested it in the game? It might meet the requirements of common sense that the project is cancelled if all funding nations withdraw. However, computers are hardly known for common sense. EtherImp
Seems this dispells the myth that killing aliens is better for your score than capturing.

Chris StarShade
I got it from the OSG, and yes I have noticed at least one discrepency. It seems the game has a tendency to not be able to decide what the score deduction for losing HWPs should be. On occasion I have seen it double the penalty and I have also seen it deduct nothing for losing 3 HWPs in one mission. It is probably a glitch. Paladin
I confirm that, it's not constant.
Quantifier
soldiers MIA cost you 20 points, but if the soldier gets killed you lose more points if he or she was somewhat experienced. every soldier has a 'killed penalty' value (for rookies its initially 20). as he or she advances in skills the number gets higher.
