[NKF]
You could look at it this way. They'll all run together into one big manual divided into multiple manuals, memos, footnotes, booklets and pamphlets. - NKF
[stewart]
Okay if we do multiple manuals, what will they be?
j'ordos
Okay if we do multiple manuals, what will they be?Well, I'd say one for geoscape, and one for battlescape (assuming we also add geoscape stuff?), then some subcategories, which are a bit harder...-UFO recovery-terror sites-base assault-base defence-...? [NKF]
Heh, I was going to post a few examples in my first post.... before I decided they weren't necessary. Hmm. Let's see... Commanders Handbook - on general Geoscape matters, a collection of manuals comprised of : - The Quartermaster's logbook - on maintaining stores - Human Resources Memo - on hiring staff and accomodation (not really, but .. eh) - The R&D and Workshop Ergonomics Guide - Structural Engineer's Report - On base construction, location and layouts notes. - Absolute Beginners guide of Psionics for Dummies (In addendums) - So Your House Is Being Attacked By Creatures-From-Another-Galaxy- Munitions and Guns - Special 1999 Weapons-From-Outer-Space edition. And so much more, for a staggering $99.99 with a money back guarantee if you get blown to smithereens. Refund only applicable on personal application. - NKF Edited November 27, 2004 by NKF
Snakeman
Ok, I read the brief that was posted in the other forum to get a gist of how its to look. From what I saw, it looks a bit like your average military tactics guide (the way its written) yet with X-COM bits sprinkled throughout (the other terms used, such as X squares away and so forth). I think addendums might be cool too, perhaps coming off as your kind of "fake real life soldier action report" sorta thing, as if it were written by one. Anyway, I'd be interested in trying to write up something for the Quartermaster stores portion and/or contributing to the R&D bits. In many respects the topics are interrelated with regard to self sustainment economically speaking.
[stewart]
Many of the manuals list can be grouped though. Perhaps manuals should follow importand "screens" in the game. BattlescapeBaseScapeGeoscapeInterception Window Have a few manuals with sections. Maybe even the last three list here could be combined (although I do like the idea of a separate Pilots manual). Anyway how 'bout if someone makes a tree describing all this ("main" manuals with sub categories).
Snakeman
So for example if I do a submission for the stores stuff/managing engineering tasks (in the final verison anyway you could name and/or number it how you wanted), it'd be under BaseScape overall heading, subheading "Quartermaster Guidlines" etc.? [stewart]
Whatever names we come up with is whatever names we come up with. I should think the manuals should be centered around tasks or goals, say: managing a team in the field, managing bases, managing aircraft, planning a team for field operations, planning bases, planning the airforce things like that. Snakeman
Gotchya. I'll fiddle around with one for kicks and hopefully have one for review during the next week some time.
