Hey that Geoscape looks as good as that CS guys. Crimony did you have a look at those monsters? If this thing's multiplayer then why are we planning what we're planning?

I don't know... on that site they only mention the realtime part. Is this part of the X-Com family? It's called UFO: blahblahblah instead of X-Com: blahblahblah. :) I once bought a product called X-beyond the frontier because I thought it was part of the frontier series by the name and the fact :P that they mentioned frontier (to mislead) all over. Was a good trading game with better graphics but wasn't as good as the real frontier. :)

I know what you mean. also the interface reminded me of other real time games I've seen in the past that aren't as fun as X-Com.. I think what really makes the X-Com game so great is that sometimes you get an alien in close range and it's dark and you are scared if your guy is going to miss it. There is real suspense in X-Com at times.

If you visit the press section of ufo-aftermath.com, there are some recent interviews with the director of the game's development. He discusses the realtime/turn-based issues and says basically exactly what Timil just posted.

yeah :) but that makes the game sound more like a Baulder Gate clone. The screenshots sort of look like it too.

thats what i like, in dark missions i get wooped badly, losing tanks in dark, cause its harder for me to see.

btw any1 found that Aftermath looks a bit like Enforcer.. as by the decor of the maps, and aliens?

I have a feeling Aftermath is going to be a disappointment. Might do good on sales and be a big hit with a larger market, but I have a feeling many xcom fans are going to be really disappointed. Afterall, xcom fans have seen strategy gaming at it's best.

Aftermath sounds too much like a watered down version of xcom targetted at the kind of gamers that don't have the patience for turn-based and resource management of xcom1 and 2.

Maybe but maybe not. The graphics look really good. It might be enough for true XCOMers to at least not hate it.

Damn, this is some scathing stuff. If we sat here and compared every strategy game to X-Com, there would be VERY few that were better. Doesn't mean the lesser ones are gonna be crap. I think they want a real time strategy game inspired from the X-Com series, whereas we want a turn-based 3D update to X-Com. I say don't expect 3D X-Com, go into the game openminded, or u could miss a very good game.
