A Logical Approach To The Matter Of Weight And Strength.

Hi everyone this is my first post :)

I don?t know about the rest of you but I think that the original relationship between weight, strength and encumbrance was quite illogical, I mean if a soldier?s strength was say 50 than he could carry 50 units of weight without even noticing but if it got to 51 he would start to realize the existence of gravity?!

And I don?t care how strong you are if you are carrying a loaded rocket launcher, 3 extra large rockets, a loaded heavy plasma, an extra clip, a medi-kit and three grenades (70 weight units i.e. the strength limit) you are going to move much slower than if you were only carrying a laser pistol and a single grenade.

IMO a much better system could be achieved by implementing two simple steps:

1- increase the soldiers? TUs by 75%.

2- Adjust the meaning of strength to ?The number of weight units that cause the soldier to lose half his TUs? meaning that EVERY item the soldier carries causes him/her to loose some TUs according to the equation TUa= TUm*(1-0.5W/S) where TUa is the actual number of TUs the soldier gets at the beginning of the turn, TUm is the maximum possible TUs (the TUs the soldier would get if s/he doesn?t carry anything at all), W is the weight of all items carried by the soldier and S is the soldier?s strength.

In addition to being more realistic I believe such a system would add a whole new dimension to the game allowing custom specialties for the troops (Scout: pistol + one or two grenades and motion scanner, Regular: rifle + grenades, Support: rocket launcher/BL, Medic: rifle+ medi kits ?etc.) instead of putting everything on everyone (within the item limit) it would also add new meaning to the pistols and allow a variety of play styles (fast lightning squad or slow bulldozer team or a combination of both or?.) and I don?t think it would be hard to implement.

So, what do you all think?
