sir_schwick
I know its kinda late to think in terms of this legacy for Xenocide, but here we go.... The alien Mars facility contains a garrison of a few hundred thousand troops. The overmind, which is not some brain in a dish like that guy from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is housed in a large facility and quite well protected. It would require a full scale military invasion combined with intense commando missions to take down the overmind. However we are fortunate that they only have enough ships to transport a few thousand troops at once. This is the reason the earth bases and orbital facilities are so important. Over a couple months a base will go from housing skeleton staff to thousands of soldiers. Of course this means that alien base attacks will also need to be thought of in new terms. So victory requires a few stages. First you must eliminate the alien presence on the surface of the Earth so governments do not feel as willing to support them. Then you must put into orbit(by sneaking your satellite onto the next launch) several anti-ship satellites once you have the fleet to deal with alien orbital presence. This also includes eliminating any alien orbital facilities. Finally you must do a long and protracted invasion of Cydonia then prepare to kill the overmind through a computer/biological virus that must be engineered on Cydonia. Another caveat is that Xenocide cannot just give their technology to nations to form the army necessary to defeat Cydonia. It is more likely the nations of Earth would destroy each other faster and then the aliens could definitely win. Instead they must recruit their own private army for domestic and foreign use. HOw does this work? Underground bases of course would have to be much larger, or soldiers would have to be hosued above surface. This means that your commando recruits would need much better starting stats. All other soldiers are not really ivnolved in commando operations, or are just kinda stock soldiers if they do get drawn in. ANyway, you can gain these recruits using your budget or by going on 'prison break' and other missions to extract new guys. In base attacks and defense you could command the general battle at a more simplified battlescape designed for large numbers. It would be platoons and companies instead of soldiers being dealt with and the maps would be more like rooms represented by a couple squares. Commando componeents are more stealth based, such as taking out AAA or defensive installations for alien bases. Also HWPs should be more important to soldier operations since I imagine that is the direction current robotics is headed. So......after you defeat the aliens on Cydonia, Xenocide decides to stay underground in case the aliens ever come back. They also start doing stuff on Mars, but it leaves plenty of space open for the future.
[Mad]
This truely sounds good, but it would be a complete different game then, wouldn't it? But maybe sth we could think of for v1+... or even v2...
sir_schwick
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that some new research directions would include unorthodox ways of making money. One would involve spying on the world currency market until you could make a critical investment to net the billions required(ala the Janson Directive). Another might involve hacking, banking laws, and even a good ol' counterfeiting machine.
Effigyofdoom
that sounbds like the makings of an ingenious game, almost like what X-com 2 should have been. . .20 years after the war, a new alien invasion, and X-com is still here, kicking donkey and taking corpses. . .for research of course.
