Recommended Posts

oh boy, it's been quite a while since i last did anything xcom

i believe there is no way to fix it, you must simply restart from an earlier save game

This happens all the time - and it can be worked around with a bit of persistence.

What version of the game are you using? If it's the dos version, are you running it through Dosbox?

One thing I'd recommend trying is delete the contents of the misdata folder. That's where the info from the last mission is always kept. It's mainly a copy of the same files you get in the savegame folder plus a few intermediate savegame files, so it's safe to clear.

That's expected - since it can't find the last mission that played. It might not be a total hang though. Luckily TFTD (Dos) is one of the few X-Com games I have access to at the moment, I might give the savegame a spin.

Before I test it, have you installed the TFTDv2 patch or is it without it? I'm only asking because I'm using the unpatched version (on a mission to look for Tasoth commander sightings), so it wouldn't be able to handle a v2.0 savegame too well (in which case I'll have to install a parallel copy with the patch applied).

Sorry for the late reply, but I've figured it out. The game's crashing at a particular time on the 3rd because it's got an invalid event scheduled to occur at that time.

I tried the game on TFTD v1 and the groundhog day kept occurring on the 3rd.

I then tried the same game on TFTD v2, and this time it stalled for a moment at the crash-time, but then it continued and then a message popped up that saying that Dreadnaught-0 couldn't be intercepted over land. Now, the funny thing is that no barracudas were out at the time. Were any of your barracudas at the first base out on a mission before the first base got wiped out?

In any case, that's what's causing the bug.

Since you've been experiencing the time loops, you must be running the game in TFTDv1. However, since you've been playing the game for a while in V1, I wouldn't recommend continuing it after patching the game to v2, as all damage to the research tree made in V1 will carry over. So you either have to patch the game and start over, or we need to find a way to remove the invalid event from occurring so that you can continue from where you left off. I do however recommend patching the game for future campaigns or if you choose to start over.

For now, an easy fix would involve creating a brand new game, saving it, then copying over mission.dat into your current save file. You might not see any activity for the next few days, but things should be back to normal.
