Right first off I'm a amtuar on programming/computer game editing etc. Though I was wondering if there was somthing I could download or use on my XP laptop so I could modify the game in getting more aliens from each craft. Just for the sake of a challenge (and i enjoy killing and therfore want more aliens to kill!) Is number tampering even possible?

So is there no way that anyone knows of editing the number of alien foes in a ship or such?

I'd assume this is one of those things which are found in the executable. As far as I know it hasn't been found yet.

The Mr. Grognard of X-COM
Zombie: Empirical data's your only man, when formulating a research plan.
A soldier's death is never in vain if it makes the formula more plain.
A few dozen make a better case for refining that third decimal place.
They call me Zombie because I don't sleep, as I slowly struggle to climb this heap,
of corpses, data points, and trials, but from the top - I'll see for miles!

I think X-Comutil is able to increase the difficulty beyond the normal Superhuman (And TFTD's Superhuman +1 ).
If I'm not mistaken, increasing difficulty level not only increases the aliens' stats, but it also changes the numbers of aliens that appear in the battle.
Check the XComutil document for more information.
