[dipstick]
Well, does exactly what it says on the tin - who wants in? I can only accept 9 applicants, as that is my total squad so places are sparse. I may not describe absolutely everything as I am extremely stuck at the moment (and no I have never finished the game) because the aliens have brought loads of better weapons and armour out, which I am frantically trying to reproduce. I had to resort to flamethrowers to liberate my base (after about 10 reloads) because my entire squad kept getting annihiated. I suppose it makes a change, as the aliens kept getting wiped out I am at about mid game I suppose - I am in control of Europe, North Africa and most of Asia. The biomass has consumed Australia and the South Pole, and we should meet in Indonesia All troopers thus far are equipped with Sun Armour and Alien Laser Rifles - although this will be upgraded to Sky Armour and Adv Alien Rifles as I get the stuff. I will also be using Rocket Spitters and the railguns (both alien and human) but I have no railgun ammo comes from flaming everything as a last resort. Any ideas on how to equip the human railgun? I have 2, but they will not equip! I know they weigh 60kg, but I thought they would just slow down.... Furthermore, I am looking enviously at the Russian Area-51 mission - but will not attempt that for a while as I cannot do a medium UFO atm. Talking about that UFO, this is a description of the reload that I remember the most vividly (as it was the closest I got to winning!). I start off with my men in the corner - all armed with grenade launchers and laser rifles, I think. They fan out and skirt a huge rock to go towards the UFO (which is on a cliff) when they encounter SNIPERS!!!!! from extreme range. Ok, I think, I have the longest range thind I have currently, and yet they still outrange me. No problem, as they are doing very little damage, so I continue. They then psi control one of my men. So I duck behind this huge rock with my squad, and swiftly send 3 grenades onto my own man to disable him. Then, who should come round the side of another huge rock, but 3 sky armoured aliens (which I had barely seen before) armed with rockets and further psi. I hammer them to death (eventually) and attempt to heal my troops, but as I had been forced out into the open by their rockets, I got sniped at again. As I merely wanted to raid the UFO, I decided to abort - but a man was down, so I used my two remaining grenadiers to rush the snipers, which they JUST about do before one gets psied. I swiftly take him out, and now I have 2 men down. No problem I think, that is all of them. Time to dust off. Then several more aliens (standard + sun) come round the same side with lasers, and I polish them off. I am in the process of healing my beleagured troops, and by this stage have all three of my grenadiers down, when what fires at me? A bloody sky armoured alien with a rocket launcher. It fires at my 2 remaining active soldiers (not healing) who happen to be standing close to my injured troops. Bang goes the rocket, bang goes my two best operatives (level 12) and click goes my mouse to reload again........ Damn, long post. Ah well, enjoy. So any takers? Cpl. Facehugger
The human railgun requires heavy armor to equip. Have a guy wearing heavy armor/Enhanced heavy armor, and he'll be able to use any of the collapsable weapons, as well as the most powerful weapons in the game: Miniguns and dual machine guns. This is really the only thing that makes heavy armor worthwile over bioarmor. Nothing barring the final bosses can take a minigun or dual machine gun burst and survive. Also, you can sign up Cpl. Facehugger. He's a heavy weapons guy with a chip on his shoulder, and a heavy armor on his other shoulder. He's in his element when carrying a warp resonator or a minigun. Marksmanship is his most important stat, as the big guns use that skill. He may be slow, but his guns can kill things from across the map!
Puasonen
Sign me up. I would like to be a fast soldier so I can run away from tough situations Some light weapons and grenades will do the trick for me.

Hailfire22
I'm in too. Hailfire loves to see the aliens be blown away by their own weapons.
[dipstick]
Good, good, I like a few recrcuits. I did use Heavy Armour to begin with, but there is a but in which the armour counts as 2x whatever the weight is. This makes it unusable - but ANOTHER 60kg would cripple the guy!! Cpl: I will give you malcolm - he is my HW specialist Don't spoil too much some of those weapons I have not come across yet - I guess they are carried by bio armoured guys. (there is another bug - I know there is bio and sky armour before I have seen it!!!!) *sigh*
[dipstick]
Oh, and I may change weapons as I see fit - ie any more close combat may require the use of flamethrowers again - I mean 3900 damage is irrestible!! Esp versus 3-4 sky armoured guys AND PSI!!!!! That battle above was the first time I met MC - so I was annoyed.
Cpl. Facehugger
[spoiler sp33k] Highlite to read: Warp resonators and warp destroyers are human designed versions of alien weapons. The warp rifles and pistols are the alien versions. And let me tell you, those are some NASTY guns. high damage/shot, burst, ignores most armor...Ack Miniguns and double machine guns are human weapons found in bases. Personally, I think they're weapons that you ripped off of attack helicopters. [/spoilers]

[dipstick]
Right, a week on I am about to begin playing UFO again I will change your names and tell you your stats I have 2 lvl 12 soldiers I know - but my lowest is a lvl 7 or 8 (still not too shabby though!!) The 2 lvl 12 soldiers are excellent in just about everything weapons wise, and that is all I remember. I will 'test' out the railgun and see where I can get ammo from - usually all hybrid tech you can manufacture ammo for!! I will have to investigate..... centurion
Well, count me in; if there's still room for a machine gunner, I'll take it, if not, a grenadier will suffice. Strength is the main attribute, with specks of other stats to have decent aliens and observation skill. Cover whenever possible, in close quarters (downed UFOs) use shotgun/the weapon with the biggest damage ever (you will know it when you will be able to make it ). SupSuper
sure, put me in, although i LOATHE the game since i don't have the game i can't ask for specific equipment, so just use me as the guy with the rocket launcher (or any other massively explosive/destructive weapons. no grenades though) Edited October 16, 2004 by SupSuper

[dipstick]
Well, that is my squad of 7 - I will post up stats and stuff sometime soon, but I will inform you guys on the status of the game now. Basically, I missed that rather large brown spot. That spot would be the secondary site of biomass which is munching up my bases rather rapidly it has to be said. The good news is that I have finally done a mission in the biomass, and so am able to take out a planter sometime soon to begin fighting back. Cpl - you and and another guy, who I will decide on soon, have used the human railguns successfully in transgenant combat. Although, that bug makes them both have 194% capacity. You both made lvl 13 because of that, and have made many car crab kills I will make a detailed list of stats soon, I promise

[Blehm 98]
also, as for teh sniper rifle, i want the heaviest one possible. NO laser weapons at all, i don't like them much(only use them because their good). A long range rifle is also good, but i don't like any sidearms to weigh me down. I want a light weight armor, and a lightweight helmet
centurion
*double post, tsk, blehm*Advanced laser rifles are usable, but IMHO the Accuracy Int'l is better in certain circumstances (better range, half-decent 'hard' damage, 40 shots in a clip, more or less common in captured base caches). For explosives, did you see aliens with launchers yet? If no, give thanks to the game engine, if yes, that's the explosive weapon of choice.edit: realized if you have laser rifles, then the stuff above was a spoiler -_- Edited October 18, 2004 by centurion
[dipstick]
by adv laser rifles I take it you mean adv ALIEN laser rifles?? I used to employ them, but I am moving onto grenade launchers and human railguns almost exclusively - work well on transgenants, but against reticulans I suspect the human railguns are too slow on firing. I think that there should be a 'stay and fire' option to permanently place a railgun.
centurion
In v1.3, the 'kneel' command deploys the railgun and all other heavy armor-using weaponry.

mj_12commando
If you need a replacement for dead squad members, MJ12 will be in as a assault rifle/CQB guy who wears the heaviest armor possible because... er... CQB. When the average engagement range is around 10 meters, you don't need to move any.
