Model looks good, but u could do the clip included to weapon. As i have have understand it (i could be wrong), it is on the top of of the barrel. http://world.guns.ru...ault/as42-e.htm there is few pics that show it (sorry couldnt find better pics at the moment).

Very good! Much better than my version of the G11, actually .

I missed the magazine thing too on my version, it's a bit like the P90 mag, long and attached to the top of the gun.

The last pic on the angle makes it kind of look like a stormtroopers blaster, which is a good thing tm.
Am I correct in saying that this will be used for the laser rifle? If so it would rock.

oh yeah - heres the laser rifle i've been working on. It's still a very big WIP, but got any suggestions, let 'em rip!

I'll wait until you get a little further along with the riflebefore posting too much, but it looks quite nice in terms of basic shape and style. Maybe rework the front and underside to look more like how the front of the pistol looks.

THe only comment besides that it looks good is what Vaaish said. The under-barrel piece looks strange- like it should have some kind of fuction. If you take the barrel out you could say that that is the clip for it- the capacitors are in the underbarrel housing.

The butt could use a little biggening, I think, too.

Ironically, the underslung bit looks like it should be a laser pointer.

yes, actually. It's a special digital zoom and light adjusting screen that also helps aim (or that's what it's supposed to be, I'm not in the CTD team ). It got a camera in the front which I havn't made yet. But currently it's just a screenshot taken from HL2. Of all thinks

I think I failed to note what I was loking at before, the only part of the stock that I didn't think worked well was the very back, it was too small and flat to be comfortable. If you fix that piece andmake hte stock join the rest of the weapon better I think we will be good.

Right nowthe back of the weapon cuts off too sharply where the stock joins and it looks a little awkward.

I Love the front, but I just can't get over the two stocks posted so far. It's almost as if the weapon has been cut in half - like a really big pistol with a folding stock. When I think rifle, I think nice, flowing stock. Here's an image of one of my favorite rifle designs - the H&K SL8.

I find it odd that a weapon as powerful as the laser rifle should "waste" the space that could be used within a solid stock. right now it looks like an overgrown pistol, with a shoulder piece that isn't even necessary, because laser weapons HAVE NO RECOIL. that is something worth considering, don't you think? I would prefer a solid shoulder piece, because then we can say that it contains additional capacitors or cooling systems or whatever.

lasers may have no recoil but they still need to be balanced. Thats wht the stock does... plus it allows a soldier to brace it against his shoulder to help steady his aim.

I agree... I was just poiting out that the stock doesn't just absorb recoil.

One thing I'd like to note is that giving the laser rifle a sniper style full stock makes sense because not only does it look cool, but also gives it the sniper rifle feel which it deserves as it's the closet thing to one in the game, and that a full stock is the ideal place to put the power storage devices

Mostly, a nice big stock will provide counter-weights for the front of the rifle. At the moment, with that wimpy stick of a stock and the slanted handle, it is going to be a pain in the arse to aim up. It'll be constantly tipping forward and down unless used with both hands. Go for a full stock design like the SL8, and add some panels on it that could be access to any thing put in there. Or it could be a music player. << >>

(In Unreal Tournament 2004, nearly all, if not all, of the weapons have hidden "play", "stop", "record" and "fastforward" buttons. Some have "rewind". One of the robots has "WARNING - EJECTOR SEAT - WARNING" hidden on it's head. )

no recoil aside, I think it just looks better with a stock
and the as Moriarty and Tzuchan stated, an excellent place to store power cells/capacitors/what ever - it makes sense.

Aside from that, Whoever made the mesh and did the texturing for the laser pistol - damn good job!

For a rifle i think it's important to have a stock and be weilded two handed... if it is wielded one handed the rifle becomes more of a handgun.

Or perhaps a carbine. I believe those are about half-way between SMGs and actual Rifles.

just looked at it without a stock. It did look ike a large handgun, I'll see what stock I can cook up.

edit: took that sniper stock and slammed it dirrectly behind a pic of the rifle. They merge together perfectly. A simple cut and paste job gave some results. Could this work?

NB, the hole is for the shooter's thumb, so it would have to be much closer to the pistol grip.

mikker. it looks better how it is in the mockup you posted up there, the joint should be smooth so it doesn't look like an after thought.

In other words, perhaps you should look at the picture that you derived that design from in order to figure out what is wrong with your current grip.

It is difficult to know what you mean by all of those smilies, but I do not enjoy being called wacko or having it implied that I am babbling. You are a 3d artist and you are designing something that, at the very least, would fulfill the function that it is designed for. Being held in a comfortable way is one of these functions. I understand that not everyone gets the opportunity to hold weapons, and fewer get the opportunity to hold one with a pistol grip. If you are having trouble with imagining what it is like, you can always google search looking for people who are holding assault rifles and other weapons, and pay close attention to what their hands are doing.

wow, yes, that is going to look great! but fuxor is right, the grip/handle just doesn't work the way it is right now. you have to keep in mind that the hand actually wraps around the grip, so the rear part needs to be different. righ now, if you were trying to use the rifle, it would be very awkward. try to imagine it. if it doesn't work, print it on cardboard, cut it out and try it. you'll see. but as I said, this is going to be great. It really looks like a powerful rifle now.

I still havn't any idea what on earth you mean fuxor. Your saying 'its wrong' and should be a 'pistol grip with projection' which I have no idea what means. I've looked at one or two pics of snipers using the weapon, and I still have no idea what you are talking about.

edit: overlooked Moriartys post- So it's wraping your hand arround it that is the problem? K, I'll look into it. Why didn't you just say that in the first play fuxor

I hope this more clearly delineates the shape of the construction of the grip and buttsock of the weapon. Any weapon with a 'marksman's' grip like this can be broken down as such. There is always a pistol grip and a buttstock and some moulded piece of plastic that joins the two. The basic shape of the pistol grip and buttstock are never altered, though.

Hey Mikker, what about making the part right infront of the rifle straight instead of curved upwards?
