I thought posts didn't count in here Edited May 21, 2004 by blehm

[Blehm 98]
How about aliens also have stuff like riflemen, snipers, heavy weapons etc.
[Blehm 98]
okay, maybe a kamikaze alien. And different magnitudes of Commander(ie supreme commander, high commander, liuetenant commander, commander major that sort of thing)for both xcom and aliens. And perhaps soldiers have the most health of all the aliens, as they do the dirty work. Engineers have the most armor because they work in a dangerous environment. Navigators have the least because they are mostly NC Leaders have the highest firing accuracy and reaction, commanders have the highest psi skill and strength, are the smartest, and have special armor. Bongman
I like that idea. Its stupid that the navigator aliens have the same attributes as the soldiers
The Master Maniac
Yeah, I don't see why not. It would be cool to see your own soldiers develop special rank/skill modifiers as well, say an incredible marksman can be labeled as a Sniper or something later on. It would better distinguish your men from one another, and perhaps give the ability for the player to focus on certain skillsets for individual soldiers as they learn and adapt to different battlefield conditions. Maybe we can have a Colonel Gudrun Krause that specializes in Field Medical Support after all... Cpl. Facehugger
and why should i edit posts? I thought posts didn't count in here Primarily because it's easier to find a particular idea. Also, I believe the majority of the aliens are clones or similar constructs. As such, there probably wouldn't be as many ranks as in a human military. (I'm reaching here, it's pretty darned late right now. )

UFO: Aftermath comes to mind easily here, they've done a really good job of revitalising the soldier interface...
DG_Slider
X-Com forces really could use a new and improved ranking system IMO. Not sure what the ration was in the original game but maybe we should expand it to look like: 1 Sergeant per 4 troops1 Lieutenant per 2 Sgts1 Captain per 2 Lts1 Major per 2 Capt1 Colonel per 3 Maj1 Commander Rookies could progress to squaddie, then veteran, then specialize into a school like Sniper (adding accuracy), medic (reducing medkit activation costs), heavy weapon specialist (added strength), Forward Observer/Scout (increased reaction), Grenadier (improved grenade skills), etc. Might be a little much but you get the idea. Paladin
Yup, already plenty of it discussed (just search "rank" and you'll see)It's on the wish-list, but it's not so bad as to not being able to SEE it in the equipment screen...
