Everyone for the most part has msn as their source of IM ...

but I been thinking if everyone should start joining IRC .. so that the community can get bigger and everyone can chat at the same time.

im going to start a chatroom on IRC called #ufo2000 on undernet.

im starting in undernet because its a popular network rather than the old network that nobody has ever heard about.

What does everyone think???

we can also try quakenet.. its a popular irc network for games...

but for now lets try undernet

join #ufo2000

come on guys!!!!

Nobody heard about Freenode?? The existing #ufo2000 on irc.freenode.net is at least mentioned on the Ufo2k homepage. Making another channel will do more harm than good I think.

So come and join us: #ufo2000 on irc.freenode.net, there you can already meet me and sometimes ssvb the Finn who doesn't play anymore! ;-)

I'm there! ^_^

Now to find a way to raise awareness about the chatroom...

I won't give up trying to help the community grow! B)

Yes, it's definitely more fun when having more people around.

The fact that I currently live and work in Finland does not make me a Finn :)

On the other hand, if anybody has questions about the project development or needs help with understanding the sources of the game, I'll try to help.

we've had a room on irc.quakenet.org in #ufo2000 for about a year now

those of us that use it tend to already be on the quakenet server in other channels, so it simplifies things for us.

i'll try and idle in freenode as well.

#ufo2000 channel on freenode.net has been in use for a lot longer:

/msg ChanServ INFO #ufo2000

I agree that freenode.net is more popular with free software developers but not gamers. Anyway, irc channel on freenode.net was originally created as a place for ufo2000 developers to meet and discuss plans. And it served this purpose well at some point, while the gamers mostly preferred to chat directly in the game not bothering to install irc client :)

Well, it's your choice of course. Just do not ask promoting quakenet server to become the offical one ;) We have had not quite pleasant experience with game related resources hijacking in the past (more specifically a forum), so it's reasonable to be conservative and not jump from one thing to another without a really good reason.

You are welcome at freenode.
