cant...hold... on... time... too... fast...

great to see an x-com fans site... wonderful game, always will be with me(still have the original cd, and terror from the deep!).

however, im in a jam, it seems that the game "time" runs waaaay too fast for me to handle... 5 seconds tick way too quickly, same for the others... now, naturaly, im guessing its because my cpu's too fast, and the lazy programmers never included an internal clock(anyone ever played wacky wheels? apogee rocks, you can play the damn thing on anything).

so, anyone have a solution? i tried cpu kill, but the problem is that while i "can" slow down time, the entire game gets slowed down along with it... which is a total bitch... i need something that will emulate a 486 clocking, rather then slow down the entire computer by giving him consuming tesks...

so, anyone?

Are you running the colelctor's edition of xcom? If you're not, you might try using it and seeing if it's any slower. If you are, then you need to get a slower CPU :) You either have to live with it or get an older computer for $50 at a garage sale. Anyone else have a more reasonable solution?

well, you'll be glad to know that

a)using a wonderful program called turbo, i managed to slowdown the computer to the EXACT same speed as a 486... but the sound card emulation was crappy as heck(you know how it is with today's soundcards... makers dont give a crap about the old games, so they give a so so sound blaster 16 emulation)...

but

b)after careful checking, i realized my old 486 was simply missing a few cables... hooked him up, gave it a few checks, and it works great! just think: a 486,with, i think, 100mhz, a 2 gb hd, and 16mb memory... and a sound blaster pro! man, i missed that sound blaster... so now, im working on playing x-com again, star control 2, and lords of the realm....

anyway, i recommend the turbo program, its quite good.

Hey why not doing something useful instead of wasting cpu cycles. I'm running seti@home in background. Geoscape clock is running way too fast on my duron 950 but tactical is ok(adjust scrolling speed. You have to be a little quick with mouse but instead of few seconds you'll loose few minutes, it's not such a tragedy and fortunately it's only when chasing ufos(or dealing with geoscape) and you're eager to react to ufo threat as soon as possible.
