What Is The Advantage Of Higher Ranks?

Is it worth having higher ranked troops? My highest guy is a squaddie I think and he still kicks . Would it be worth my getting some extra troops to build my guys up more?

ranks itself don't really do anything, extra morale penalty if he gets killed, and I guess he also gives a morale bonus while alive (at least, in xcom1&2 )

In X-Com 1 & 2,higher ranked officer boosts efficiency(by giving a small bonus to soldiers reactions value),and reduces the amount of morale lost when a team member is being shot.In addition,they also gives bonus to psi defense(i realise that all my team members take a lot of psi beating before being controlled or panicked).The downside is,u have to keep them far away from combat(which means less soldiers to fight the aliens) coz if they(colonel for example) die,ur team is in serious trouble

 

In X-Com 3,ranks(medals) are just for show.They give no help in battle at all.Just something for u to brag to ur friends(example:hey,i got 20 agents with the 'star' medal).

The medals are indeed just for vanity. The 'rank' of the soldier however still has some effect on your morale loss.

 

But I find the differences so insignificant that it really isn't something you'd want to dwell on too much.
