TiLT
In a sudden fit of inspiration, a friend and I started remixing one of the two Geoscape themes from the original X-COM today. We want to stay true to the original, only updating the sound quality and format (update a lot, that is!) and adding a few flairs that we feel enhance it. Can't present any examples yet, but we will if we can really get this going. Our composition was actually totally unrelated to Xenocide, but we decided that we could just as well contribute our music to something good. I'm pretty new to this forum, so I haven't really seen much mention of how many people you have doing the music. If you want or need our help, and you like the idea of bringing back the original themes, we might even remix a few more of the themes, like the other Geoscape theme and the cheezy intro theme. CannonFodder
I'd like to hear something similar to the UFO: Enemy Unknown battlescape theme in the remake somewhere. That song was great for building atmosphere.
TiLT
Are you thinking about the music used during tactical battles? I don't think a remix of that one would be very interesting, but with some work I could make a better version of it that would almost be more than a remix. Xcen
We could do that for fun, not for profit since we would prolly get our asses sued... I have planed to include a few "tribute" riffs in the new score though... For exemple, that cool simple bassline in the intro might be going in what is non as "draft no 2" hehe But when we get most of the work done, I agree we could do it for fun and promotion purpose... Trailer like... Remember this? (black screen slowly fading to the xcom logo while a cool remix of the intro is played) Insomnia...Sheer terror...Loss of friends...Death of social life...X-Com... is... BACK... (Xenocide screenshot bonanza going at a mad tempo on a killer original composition that's going to be in the game) (Song ends with a remake of the original intro's end) X E N O C I D E (fading in and out in a cool way) Tada
TiLT
You'd get sued for including remixes of music from the original game? As far as I know, you are free to do any remix you want, as long as you don't steal any of the sounds from the original music. We're making these remixes totally from scratch, with new instruments, effects, even a different music system! (we're using Reason 2.0) The piece of music we're currently concentrating on is the one called GMGEO2.MID in the sound folder of the original game. It always gave me the right mood for the game, neither disturbing me with loud noises nor making me too relaxed.
LordT
Insomnia...Sheer terror...Loss of friends...Death of social life...X-Com... is... BACK... Do you mean in real-life or in the game? Those words fits both I think
Xcen
I meant that it is not possible to include remixes IN the game for legal reasons... Music is copyrighted as well as graphics or trademarks or whatever, you can't just "steal" their music.... Even if the sounds are changed or whatnot, it remains the same musical arrangements... I might be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure we can't used the old songs in the remake, for the same reasons we can't use words like "X-Com" or "sectoid" or "chryssalid"... LordT I meant in Real Life While I was playing X-Com (I was about what, 13-14?) I'd get phone calls from friends and just say "Can't do anything today, I'm busy" and then hang up ;P

gangsta
It's illegal to use sampled sound.
TiLT
And that's exactly what we're not doing. There's no trace of sampled sound in our remixes.
Xcen
As I said, I could be wrong... Or even maybe I misunderstand what you mean, is there a way to hear what you've done so far?
