At XTC I've seen people posting designs for varoius map elements made with DaiShivas map editor. I'd like to encourage memebers here to do the same and post them in this forum.

This was a problem in the beginning of the program's life, as seen here.

I have never gotten .net off of the windows update, so i dont know what it installs. You can get the .net redistributable from here:

1) Tilesets are incompatible (You can only use the X-COM tilesets, or the TFTD tilesets - otherwise they'll go funny coloured)

 

2) Too many MCD entries. If you have any more than 255, your map will get garbled.

So you can't mix and match tiles from XCOM with tiles from TFTD? Arse fez.

If you use Xcomutil's 'hybrid game' option, it converts the tilesets to the proper palette, so you can mix them.

 

IIRC, it converts them to the proper palette but you will get weird color results. For instance, when you use TFTD terrains on an UFO game, the colors will be completely weird because of the conversion.

I can live with that, but I do have a query about MCD limits. I know if you have more than 253 MCDs assigned, it borks, but... does it only bork the tiles that are over the limit? i.e. if you had 300 tiles assigned, would it only bork if you tried to use tiles 254 through 300?

 

I have no idea of what it would happen. On the original UFO if there's more than 255 node points (the RMP files), the program seems to simply ignore the excess nodes.

My advice is to not assign more than 253 mcd entries. From what I recall from my experiences in that matter, the game will either load up to 255 or it might replace the first tiles. In any case your maps might have serious problems later working.
