misiek
Hi, I don't know if this was already discussed, so I'm making new topic. It will take some time, when Xenocide and other Xcom remakes will be playable(UFO2000 is great, but it isn't for single player), so it would be nice to have Xcom source code - for bugfixing, porting to another platforms (like Linux), extending What I think we could do is: Write good petition(for source code and game data), make some web page for it and put it into some domain (like www.ufo-petition.com). Then we should mass announce it:1. Ask authors of EVERY Xcom webpage to put info about petition and link to petition site2. Try to ask also abondonware sites3. Write info about this on forums, send mails to forum members4. Tell your friends about it 5. If there will be many links to petition site, there's chance that it will be indexed very high in google - so everyone googling for something about Xcom will probably look there What do you think about it? Does it make sense? Do we have any chance? Do we have something to loose? There are some similar petitions - for example to get Civilization 2 code. There are also some companies which released source code of their games(Idsoftware games, Star Control 2 and probably many more). PS. Sorry for my language mistakes. Slaughter
Sounds good to me. We already have some ideas for a petition to develop a sequel to X-Com. They are on hold for this summer however. Anyway, if we are to petition it has to be done properly. There's been a lot of petitions started over the years that never did well because the people starting it didn't have the contacts and will to see it through. I can post what we discussed in regards to getting an X-Com sequel developed here later today. Whatever you do, don't start this without proper planning and preparation.
