If anyone is interested, Gauss Defence is quite bad if the chances really work as stated. Torpedo defence is passable if you don't need to save space.

Gauss defences are meant to be second in that series, so we go Torpedo, Gauss, Sonic, PWT in that order. Basically each steps gains efficiency at the price of increased cost.

I must agree though that dozens of torpedo defences are frighteningly powerful once coupled with the Bombardment Shield. Gets kind of boring though after a while, but having a greater number of attempts improves your chances considerably.

Effectiveness of the defence modules are mooted once you realize that the aliens keep resetting the Dreadnaught to attack the base over and over until one breaks through. Delaying the attack is probably one of the few reasons to have them though - it gives you time to clear out your stores, bring in troops, buy SWSs, remodel the aquapods to control the flow of the battle, etc.

ooooh. I didn't know that. LOL, no wonder why they attack almost every day.
