It might have an AI for things like quick single player games or to help newbies get use to the game but UFO2000 is heading more in the direction of a MMP game. If you are like us (the ones who've played the original X-COM) we've had our fill of AI's, we want to go up against something that can actually think! And what better than to challenge your fellow UFOer?

well, the fact is i dont like MMP much. I still prefer old school games. You know, were you need to face the computer.

Sigh.... i wish and improved X-Com, but not 3d, using 2d sprites, actual sprites, but with more actions, to make game lesser monotonous. (i love original X-Com, but.... man, all those years, its always the same! :( )

I mean, starting on actual day, and then playing until the future. Researching more stuff, more things to do in geosphere, bases and so. Like did in Xcom (not TFTD)

The actual game types are fun.So, could be possible to make more diverse missions than recovering ufos and atacking/defending bases.

Ok, maybe im dreaming much. Back to reality, seems all these days all likes Multiplayer Games only.... :'(

An AI would need a lot of work, and a good one even more so.
Even in professionell games, the AI plays with "other rules"
than the human players, e.g. it cheats.

So, any AI for ufo2000 wouldn't be much more than a kind of trainer,
that is used only once or twice.

It might be better to spend the development-time on other features,
such as day+night - battles, the items still missing (medi-kit...),
and implementing some more alien races (snakemen...).

I'd have to agree with HaJo. The devs don't really have the time to make a good AI to go along with the game. It just takes too much time, time that they don't have. Not to mention that we all want the night missions, added items, and new races, which add to the already long list of things to do. And IMHO the devs should make the ethereals and sectopods available by the next beta ^_^

then im the only who want to play agains little ai.

I used to play Laser Squad  with my friend, cooperating against IA. (hard mode, when AI recives a lot of men). That was an old game. And contains a little, but cool IA. Im not too good in tactics, so, a little AI is only thing i ask.

Note im not demanding. Of course NOT! -_- But, its hard to find someone to play... :crying:

BTW, how many people are coding this?

I think around 2-3, maybe 4. If you don't know, which I think you might, there is a newer LS out called Laser Squad Nemisis. It is a fun game and the AI is actually pretty tough. If you haven't seen it you ought to check it out.

yeah, i know about nemesis. But its beyond i can remember from Laser Squad 1. (i dont like that mix of realtime and time based)

After all, we are playing ufo because the system is easy to play, hard to master. :)

I don't know about the rt/tb aspects of LSN :huh?: . It is fun at times and confusing at other times. What's for sure is that is gives it a very unique feel. I actually like it, but then it's no UFO2000! ^_^

I agree that making very advanced AI would be a hard task and we can start from making a very simple AI first.

It will be useful not only for training newbee players but it will be also very useful for testing purposes. For example, we can make two AI players fight with each other for the whole night and check if the game crashed or had other problems in the morning :)

That's why I think that adding AI to UFO2000 is a must.

I know that would save us a lot of time looking for bugs. ^_^
Oh, and what's the progress on adding in new races and weapons? IMO those are probably the most wanted additions to the game right now.

i used to make AI's for F*eecraft. That game uses a .lua file to control AI.

Could be AI Ufo like F*eecraft?

Freecraft was closed because Blizzard. Its a RTS Game engine who can play WarCraft II better than the original one!!

Now, its named Stratagus.

You can check it here: http://stratagus.sourceforge.net/ -> engine

http://wargus.sourceforge.net/ -> script that use Warcraft II data to play with Stratagus.

One of the main reasons for integrating Lua scripting support in UFO2000 was the idea of adding scripting language powered AI to the game eventually. But Lua proved very useful for game resources management too :)

Almost everyone is using the latest beta version now. Stable version is currently a bit out of date and does not contain all the bleeding edge features, so it is not very popular currently.
