space captain
here is a track i just did with xenocide in mind, not really any other purpose or intention... it could be used for things like briefing or mission layout screens, maybe a certain level or some such thing like this... anyhow its located here :http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/invisibl...opolismusic.htm with the title "hidden messages"
mikker
i really like this. It really feels creepy without any unnecessary beats. I think this will fit the start menu nicely.
space captain
cool!! im glad you like it, my other ideas are more focused - but this was just something i did to "get in the mood" so to speak... im now working on a possible "combat" song, which will be more techno-ish - but not really dancey or anything like that, Im going for more of a cinematic type techno thing... evocative of danger and fighting and that sort of thing i realize this is probably all undecided at this point, but one of my pet peeves for strategy or RPG games is the lack of more than 1 "battle song"... which usually gets old fairly quick (even if its a damn good one)... so I was thinking about doing a few of these types of songs so some variety would be available... Im probably going to shoot for something that could loop AFTER a sufficient intro - or perhaps we could have a "universal" combat intro sound, after which a selected loop would begin to play.. so the actual loops themselves will probably be in the 3-4 minute range, anything longer seems a bit impractical, but anything shorter usually gets kinda annoying my theory here is to keep using synthesis as opposed to samples, so i will synthesize the drum sounds myself.. i'll probably stick with that for a few tracks, then maybe try some other more "world music" type sounds for some ethnic type scenes and the key here will be doing something appealing enough to make you want to listen to it over and over and over... not unlike dance music, you have to make repetition one of the HIGHLIGHTS, it has to be an important facet of the peice... but hopefully you will see what i mean once i get a sample done my plans are just to throw a whole bunch of tracks at you guys, and let you pick which ones you think would be appropriate... and I can always tweak and modify them to your liking as well... im also up for any kind of sound design you may need: guns, radios, doors, footsteps, anything really... and yes I can even do voice to - Ive got an isolated recording space with a nice condensor mic... fux0r666
I don't believe we have any finalized sound effects at the time of this writing.
paulus
space captain - great tune (btw have you tried playing it back a bit slower at 60% speed? - try it my friend - i think you're on to a great atmospheric winner there - especially for missions where we are actually infiltrating an enemy base, or sneaking around a downed sub!! btw - try listening it to 60% speed on its own for best effect to see what i mean...eg, dont listen to it at normal speed, and then at 60% - you'll loose the effect i mean it's entirely up to you, but if you give your ears a 5 min break, set winamp to 60% and then start playing straignt at 60% for the whole tune, i think it's great (i'd love to be abel to hear this for my underwater Terror From the Deep game im playign right now - (please feel free to reply back if you can or cant see what i mean abotu playign this track slower Edited July 3, 2004 by paulus
fux0r666
Interesting slowness.. I think I might like the normal speed better, but the slow one does sound quite moody. edit: Kind of like a John Carpenter theme only not cheesy. bountyhunter2211
I'm listening to your song right now, and it's perfect for the techno/horror theme that Xenocide needs. I am almost hypnotized by the thing. . Nice work! bountyhunter2211
