Ok, after many, many hours, I managed to install VMWare on my Windows 7, set it properly, install Win98 SE, fix 2 million bugs..... only to be able to play X-Com Interceptor again.
The game installed well on my guest Windows98, but it doesn't run. When I double-click, the hourglass runs quickly, disappears, and that's it. Sometimes I can see the game appears on Task Manager, but it doesn't do anything. If I take the CD out, it gives me the no-cd message. If I try to run in 16 colours, it complains as well. But when it's all set, it just doesn't do a thing.
Does anyone have some tip for me? I'm really tired of fighting this, it's been 4 days totally dedicated to it already, with an overdose of Googling.
thanks in advance

Well, I tried installing Win98 on Virtual PC 2007 instead (which is free, as opposed to vmware) and X-Com Interceptor worked instantly. It just cannot recognize the 3d card, so the graphics are kinda bad, but that's an immense improvement from VMWare.
Hope this can be useful to someone.
