Who Makes The Xenocide Gear?

Recommended Posts

This thought came to me as I was writing a description for the High Explosive. The funders? The in-house researchers? Someone has to come up with the specs for things like the Stun Rod and Prox. Grenade. I suppose since this is supposed to be like a UN force(that's kinda funny), they should have access to the best equipment available, so world governments would probably be the masterminds behind these various items. Any other thoughts? :happybanana:

Hey -

Go with the old idea, that the weapon bid goes to the cheapest bidder  . In all seriousnesss though, you can say its either from a private company, or the best the worlds miitary already has to offer. It's up to you, and if it turns out not to work, we can always change it.

I suppose it's not terribly important. Obviously the gear had to come from some well funded source with access to high-tech junk. I'm guessing this same "source" is the one buying all of X-Net's used/obsolete junk. I mean, who really wants 43 Sectoid corpses and a mind probe? :happybanana:

known human kind explosives will have to be purchased fromthe manufacturere of such an item. This would have to be done through a agency who would be appraoching mining and drilling firms for their excess, or through military contacts and possibly even the black market.

In house manufacturing is so expensive. there is something called economies of scale. If we are not a major producer then the major producer can undercut us. (Could bea financing mechanism). Or we could sneak into all the mafia and black market connections and through bugging and subterfuge, hijack black market deals. We'ld be the cowboys holding up the cowboys in the great train robbery! it'ld be like being robbin hood but better as no one would know your good cause, and so you'ld have to be sooo secretive.

I love to be able to monitr and track all the worlds produce and see where is goes mssing. Clamp down on all occasions where it is not us. Be a black market player, and get into trouble with the interpolice, who is covering our backs? There are so many avenues for storyline here.

Hehe, James Bond is finally killed off and we hire Q to build our toys!

If private citizens are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a couple word summary of a Harry Potter book, how much would they pay for the body of a real alien? There would probably be people who would eat them for their medicinal powers! People pay big bucks for really stupid stuff as it is, so finding buyers of alien related goodies is an easy thing IMO. As to acquiring gear, there are manufacturers all over the world building weapons for any country willing to pay for it. Weapons smuggling is big business, and this would be another form of that. Higher end stuff for high end money. I expect we'll be updating the cost of some of these items maybe? Something as simple as doubling the cost for everything, whether buying or selling. The wonders of inflation...

Hmm, an idea springs to mind. I don't know if this has come up, but anyways. I think that when you are selling the exess stuff you should be able to choose where you sell. This might be too complex for V1.0, but still...

This could lead into all sorts of political fiddling...

Might look weird, when we strap the watch around our heads! :D I always thought the psi amp should be somehow a helmet based thing, but oh well...

Aosar, what would be the reasoning / benefit of choosing the buying country? I expect that there would be a middleman/fence of some sort that takes all the items to sell on whatever markets will take it.

To increase additude thorwards 'x-com' ofcourse. Much like buttering up organisations with money in Apoc...

E.G. China is displeaced with your performance, you simply sell them a few corpses for study and perhaps some research data? Then ofcourse if you would favour certain countries others will become jealous. This kind of interaction is most frequent in empire building turn based strategies.

However, I have to wonder is this really a necessary feature in Xenoside?..

I don't think u should just throw that out the window, that kinda interaction with the world goverments adds depth 2 the game which I love.

4 instance, my fav game (followed closely by X-Com ) is Championship Manager, and the depth level is incredible. Also a testament 2 what u can do with just text ( there are no graphics whatsoever apart from shots of real life footballers in the background ).

I understand, due to the international variance on this forum that many ( mainly americans ) won't have played it since they have no interest in football (soccer). However, I think u should check it out, if only 2 c what can be done with a lot of depth and no graphical interface.

Whereas this game is gonna have a lot of good graphics, I think that it does have relevance here. See it as a bench mark in gameplay over graphics.

No, what I meant was is that depth suitable for Xenoside, does it increase the fun or divert attention needlessly from kicking some alien arse...

Sounds like a mod, or version 1+++ to me, preferably the former. It sounds cool, but not within the bounds of anything remotely resembling an X-com remake.

I don't think it would detract from the game, wouldn't be hard 2 do, and it would be good to interact more with the funding countries. Diplomacy like this has worked well in other games, look at Alpha Centuri. U wouldn't have 2 sell 2 a specific country, but if u wanted 2 then u could and maybe the benifit would be increased funding, better attitude 2 u, or maybe some free kit or some good soldiers.

I always assumed that funding was throwing money in a metaphorical hole. The funding countries know this hole somehow leads to X-COM, but it is impossible to trace. THey increase funding if the problem seems to be dealt with, but decrease it when it seems the money is just staying in the hole.

I also assumed that buying/selling of equipment was through front organizations that were usually black market or government.
