Hover craft and flying suits are already in the game. airstrikes are being considered. what im thinking of is a kind of craft that can opperate above the hover range (basicly youd have to add more altitutdes to the x-com game), but cant opperate right on the ground, like a helecopter, and some advanced flight suits.

Then what would hovertanks be for?

i very specificly said above hover range... basicly it gives us a new kind of craft to waste our money on... one that can go over the larger buildings (assuming you limit normal hover range) but cant opperate that close to the ground.

yeah like a spying bot of DarkAngel .... it fly high but have no attack and few armor ... u could use it for reco of the ground .... then later equip it with infra-red, Xray, and so on.
it can go to the ground to be checked, but then cant move, and have to return to high lvls to move again.
if u want to have something heavy atk from that heigh just have the ship bomb the area.
