Upgrading Standard Defenses/weapons

Point of realism here - would it not be a smart move to upgrade existing equipment with alien technology? For example, combining the Titan Heavy Missile with a Xenium Warhead to do more damage?

Or, say, fitting Xenium charges onto HE ammo? (For more bang per buck ratio)

Another; upgrading basic base defenses (missiles) with Xenium Warheads, updating the command hardware with Alien Tracking, etc.

Say, as an intermediary between normal defenses and [[Fusion Ball]] defenses.

I think this would provide X-Corps with a little added firepower, without them having to wait for Fusion Ball defenses. What do you all think, eh? :)

I am all for any kind of upgrading system - esp if it includes bigger and better explosions. The thing you have to keep in mind is if there is an intermediary step, then what would be the point in upgrading further?

Here's a thought. Why have separate defence modules? Why not have single 'turrets' and missile pod/silos modules that can be reconfigured as you wish.

That way your retrofitting of old defense modules would be practically built in. Swap out the old machine gun with a high powered electron destabiliser or arm rocket with microwave emitting warheads or custard launchers, or what have you.

It would be like customising vehicles and HWPs in a sense.

To use the alien-tech boomsticks.

Like [[Fusion Balls]] that sounds wrong. *ahem* <_>

Kinda like what NKF said..

Because the missiles would be unguided, or too inaccurate? Also, the fact that they're man portable would reduce the damage potential a LOT. Ask a silly question, get a serious answer. :P Edited by Exo2000

Interesting thought there. When we look at the graphic of one of the defense modules (at least with the projectile variety), we see about 16 silo slots in the representation.

Why not swap out a cluster or two to mix up that particular facility's usefulness? One group of four clusters could be missiles, another fusion missiles, another plasma, and the other laser.

Granted, this motley way of doing things I'd imagine wouldn't be as effective if all the batteries were all of one type. On the other hand, this formula beats whatever the weakest base weapon is (unless your just going with lots and lots of weak weapons placements). Even so, it could save some time on making the facility operational (i.e. your only waiting on a percentage of the facility to come online), whereas if your going the all-one-type route, your waiting on the entire structure to be built from scratch.
