T-1
I recently replayed XCOM1 and here are my thoughts on battleview/scape things: difficulty:Please make an easier difficulty level than beginner, because I'm getting massacred by sectoids on beginner difficulty. :crying: Also many people who play superhuman complain about it being too easy. How about a "godlike" difficulty? Firing from behind stuff:In xcom (more often I encounter this in UFO2000 actually):If a soldier ducks behind a fence 3-4 foot tall fence, and tries to fire at an alien on the other side he often hits the fence. In real life:You put the gun over the fence and don't hit the fence. Panicing:WHAT KIND OF IDIOT DROPS THEIR GUN AND RUNS WHEN THEY'RE SCARED!?!!?!?!? If I'm terrified, the last thing I'm going to do is drop my gun. I'd run to the skyranger, but I wouldn't DROP MY GUN. Berserking:What kind of idiot goes "berserk" while facing and alien, turns away from the alien and fires a large rocket point blank into a wall that was behind him. At least he should fire the damn thing at the alien. Weapons:What? No machine guns? No SMGs? Edited November 26, 2004 by T-

T-1
hitting the fence: accident do happen.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Not that often. panic: when people panic, thy dont do the senisble thing.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>But these guys are the best of the best of the world's soldiers, even when they're panicing, they're not going to drop their gun. Baserking: they just fire in random directions out of paranoia, a form of panic.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Please. If you panic you would not take the time to turn around and fire at a wall behind you while there's an alien pointing a plasma rifle at you three feet away, directly in front of you. weapons: how could you miss the words autofire, their in there between aimed and snap.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I know about autofire. You can do that with pistols, rifles and autocannon. There are no SMGs in the game though (like an MP5, P90, Uzi, Tec-9, etc.) and there are no machine guns (SAW, M60, etc.). Yes, but its a form of panic. Berserk soldiers just lose their senses and ability to think logically.
T-1
Yes I understand that. They think instinctively like what we usually associate with wild animals (why I'm not sure). And instinctively, you are not going to turn around to fire at the wall behind you.
Judge_Deadd
No, they don't act instinctively. They're like on drugs.
sir_schwick
Holding a gun makes you run slower.
Qonfused
well... its not like cs, if you throw the rifle on your back and pick up the knife you won't run faster. you would acctualy run slower becouse the rifle would get in the way. i agree if you limit not holding a gun to not having a gun at all. sir_schwick
Shouldn't most rifles come with a shoulder strap anyway? This way you could let the rifle rest while you pull a pistol. In RL in urban combat you are not going ot reload if you run out of ammo while dancing around a sectoid doing the same. You would pull your pistol because its a lot faster. T-1
Drugs? Since when do scared people act like they're on drugs? And since when do people on drugs drop a gun in the middle of battle (I know they're messed up, but still)? EDIT: Forget the thing about an easier difficulty than beginner, after losing two games, I went on my first mission and massacred the floaters with no casualties on my side, and I rarely lose anybody, but then I got to the snakemen on a night jungle mission and argh..... whole thing went to heck there and I started losing missions one after the other again and lost the game... so I started a new game again. hmmm... Judge_Deadd
And since when do people on drugs drop a gun in the middle of battle (I know they're messed up, but still)? Yes, they do! Why do you think they wouldn't? They're messed up and thus are completely crazy!
