Multiple Patch Question

Recommended Posts

So, Max has a patch and Mok has a patch and they both fix different issues and they both add different features and they both have different "Ufo Defense.exe" files.

Given that whichever one gets installed second will overwrite the .exe of the one that got installed first... will the features of the first one get wiped?

Mok's patch is the older one so does Max's patch improve upon the Mok executable or is it a modification from the original?

Anyone know?

It's better to specify which patches you are talking about, otherwise you're stuck to Max or Mok.

I'm talking about Max's ufoeuet_2005_03_28.zip patch and Mok's 2-part patch UFO1_VoicesPatch.part1.rar and UFO1_VoicesPatch.part2.rar.

I didn't realize there were other patches from Mok or Max than these.

Eh, I thought Max and Mok were fictional names, 1,000 apologies.

I've looked at both and it seems that you can use Max's patch with parts of Mok's, but you will not be able to fully use both because of the .exe file. Mok's original post describing the voices patch states that his modified .exe file fixes the timer, uses DirectMusic, etc. but it seems that you can only use the modified sound files.

If this is correct, then try installing Max's patch and on Mok's patch unzip the contents of the directory /SOUND to the corresponding directory on UFO to get the old alien voices.

Oh, and before you do this backup your existing UFO game, since I am not 100% sure this will work.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did. I installed Mok's patch and then installed Max's on top, thus overwriting the executable but keeping the sound files. It seems to retain the old-style alien screams (good) but loses the sound effects in the opening sequence (bad). The functionality of Max's patch (autosell and other features) is retained (good) so I guess there's more good than bad and the bad isn't all that critical.

Hi Uta

Watch out for Maxs patch; it seems to have a pretty nasty Scientist Transfer Out/Transfer In bug (details in this forum)

Cheers
