This might be discussed before and is probably known to you xcom veterans.

Do you guys use HE (magna blast/pulsers/explosives) to demolish obstacles like coral/sand ridges in the battlescape? Even when there's no enemy in that area?

A grenadier/combat engineer is definetely a must on my squad. Make that two.

BTW, I notice that pulsers provide a debris cloud thats more effective as a smokescreen than the dye greande. I find it good for covering an advance or retreat through open areas.

Or, you can go overkill with the DPL.

It always depends on how safe you want to play it...
I guess a little, or even a LOT of demolition is always in order... :D

Luckily the Triton's practically indestructable when it's underwater. On land however, a few well placed pulsers will turn it into a flying carpet with a roof.

Blasting away corals and the sand ridges is a good idea if you want to move quickly through an area (it also clears out any hostiles hiding there). Nothing slows you down like coral or having to walk up an incline (anyone notice how you have to raise the level up one just to be able to throw grenades onto some of these?). But if you are taking your time and move around these obstacles, it's worth saving a few explosives.

The rises in general are good places for snipers who haven't got the magnetic ion propulsion add-on. Although, they are nasty places to get into a close range firefight.

Oh no. First it was alien-busting violence. Now it's environment-ruining violence? When will the madness stop? :)

Hey, watch where you're going with that grenade!
If you're blasting away old farmhouses, then I'll say Sure, no problem, even the whole city if ya want... but don't even TRY to touch this preciuos, endengered-species Coral... It's an animal too, ya know!! :o

Scariest map to play on is the one where if you shoot the blue colored floor, it blows up.

But it's fun since you don't need very good of a firing accuracy to kill an alien.

Gheesh, Blem, you seem to be in a thread-cleaning mood here... :D

Re: Main topic (I don't want to be deleted O:) )
I think that using grenades to blast cover is always a matter of circumstance, if you need an obstacle out of the way, you use whatever is available, or go around (or over it) carefully...
And that's it. ^_^

Well Yeah, but there's not much point in using extreme measures to win if all we're left with is a radioactive wasteland... My point is (humor asside), that I'll try to circle coral reefs if I get the choice... Tehy are just too fragile :P
