Fenrakk101
I have the Steam installation of UFO: Defense, and every time I load a save I get an error concerning the path and the editor crashes. Can I fix this?
hatfarm
Which version do you have? If it's a 3.0 beta, where do you tell it your executable is? Since steam uses the dos versions, make sure to point it to your geoscape.exe or tactical.exe files in your UFOEXE or UFO2EXE directories respectively. Either should work fine. I may put a detection of the executable in the next version so you can see if you've put it in the right place. If this is where you have it, I'll have to do more poking around. I have tftd from Steam, maybe I should just EU too...
Fenrakk101
I have downloaded Version 2.5. Also, it goes in the UFO Defense directory? I was looking for some sort of instructions, but I couldn't find any, so I left it on the desktop (Not wanting to damage the game in any way). Should I move the folder to the /UFO_Defense directory? hatfarm
Oh, okay. You would put that in the main directory, not the UFOEXE or UFO2EXE directory, but the directory with UFO.BAT. It should work in there. You can download the new version of the utility here if you wanted to. It's got almost all of the features from the original plus a few more. It doesn't have undo capability yet, but it will in the next version. It's almost much more visually appealing.
Fenrakk101
Yeah, I got it working. Thanks for all the help EDIT: By the way, what happens if you give yourself more personnel than you have space? For example, if you have room for 30 people, and give yourself 80, what happens? An error? Edited January 31, 2010 by Fenrakk101
j'ordos
IIRC there won't be a problem, but you won't be able to hire (or transfer?) more until you have built enough living quarters again. Same for the general stores. Edited January 31, 2010 by j'ordos
Fenrakk101
Alright, thanks. Really love this mod

Same for the general stores. Yeah, that is correct. Basically, when you go to buy new people (engineers, soldiers, etc...) it does a check to see if you have room for them. It just subtracts the amount of people you have from the amount of space you have, and this will obviously make it go negative and show you have no room. It's great to see editors for this game alive and well. This was always a favorite game of mine when I was a kid, along with TFTD. Editors just made them even more fun! I bought the pack on Steam ages ago, but for some reason forgot about them. I just recently purchased a netbook, and wanted to load it with some games it could handle. Then I remembered Xcom. I just installed it, and checked that it ran, and then decided to look for editors, and here I am. I hope I can figure out how to work yours. I haven't used one since the old DOS days. Thanks for the effort. I'm looking forward to using it.
mofolicious
OK, so I started a new game and then saved it, and loaded up your editor. Oh man. GREAT work! Best one I've ever used. Do you have something for TFTD? Or will this work with TFTD?
hatfarm
I want to put in TFTD usability, but haven't yet.
mofolicious
I have one little.... suggestion. Not a complaint, but a suggestion Any plans on adding a weapons editor?
hatfarm
Yep, that will be put in eventually. That comes with the executable editor that I'll eventually be implementing.
