I kinda like it, but not really idea what the heck is that. I've got demo, where I can do nothing. There's one mission where my fellow helpers shot down UFO and I do nothing there actually. Can someone tell me are there any researches? (would be weird if X-Com'd have to make autopsies of aliens again  ). Anyway, I think 'Kinda' is my choice.

I personally like interceptor a lot, of course it cannot compare to the great X1 (is there a game that can?) but if you try to suppress those wonderful memories it is a great game. It is not totally the typical xcom but the fighter pilot role adds a much neede change even though it loses a lot of the fun in the process.

Interceptor is a fighter pilot game. you build space stations, research stuff (but no researchers), manufacture stuff (but no mechanics?), defend off world outposts and mining stations as well as blasting a few billion aliens in the process :)

Oh and by the way there are autopsies on the origional aliens, but they've been mutated edited etc etc. It is great play it.

i like x-com4. it's like x-com1 but "in space with fighters" instead of "on earth with soldiers". it's also more recent (thus better graphics than previous x-coms) and has nifty features like sensor range, voices, etc.
i would play it lots if it wasn't for certain compatibility problems :P Edited by SupSuper

i gave it 2 chances and i never understood how to play it.
i never shot an alien. i didnt know how to build stations..
i didnt look that much in it.. never shot down a UFO..

i gave it a NO. but i think i was suposed to give it a Kinda since i couldnt test it completly. -_-

I liked it. except for its awful controls. I can barely fight so I have to rely on my wingmen to do my killing for me until I got those nice tracking tracer cannons that shoot whatever enemies are on the screen... :)

Those things are cool, but they drain your beam energy pool fast and make the game just plain too easy. X-Com4 is cool, but gets boring from after the first hour and about 20 minutes before you begin the hunt for the portal. They should make a "Star Finder" where you type in a star name and it centers on that star. I'm tired of having to search the entire Frontier each time a report tells you where an alien outpost is. As for #1, I wouldn't know, so I'll agree with y'all. I found X-Com late, so I never got to play UFO Defense. NE1 know where I can get a copy?

There appears to be some controversy over the number of X-COM Apocalypse vs. Interceptor. Some people claim they are three and four respectively, some the other way around. But I like both Interceptor and Apoc. Apoc was alright if you played it in turn-based mode; real-time kinda sucked. Plus Apoc had the problem of not working on later OS than Win95.

If you go by the story, then it goes UFO Defense->TFTD->Interceptor->Apoc.

If you go by the actual game progression (when they each came out) it goes UFO Defense->TFTD->Apoc->Interceptor

(I refuse to admit that Enforcer is part of the Xcom family.) Edited by Cpl. Facehugger
Yeah, it's real cool (and corresponds to X-Com 1!), but the Mutons are way too weak compared to the original.  I mean, the only real challenges are Phantasms and Shades(****).

Mutons may be great on the ground, but it makes sense they wouldn't be the best pilots. :)

Arjuna, apoc DID work under 98, infact i only played it under 98.
Its a good game, not the best ever but a very good game. Easy when you realise what the trigers are. Very fun, many happy hours have been spent, untill xp killed x-com :cussing:

A thousand apologies, dxman. I use Windows 2000 Pro, and Apoc either doesn't work at all or has sound problems. I can't remember which; I haven't tried in a while. My brother's computer still uses ME and the sound always fails on that. I've tried tinkering with it, but to no avail.

One more thing: Mutons are supposed to be smart.

"This creature is physically powerful and intelligent." -UFOpedia

But I've found that they're not really bright. For instance, at a battleship landing site, they will continue to pour out of the doors despite the fact that the guy before them got iced. (note: I tend to blockade the center leg whilst I maneuver my raiding party into position) I can imagine their reaction to this:

"Bob got shot!"
"Really? Go see what happened!"
"Yes sir!" *mixed plasma & heavy laser fire*
"Jim! Go see what happened to Bob!"
"Yes sir!" *more gunfire and X-COM laughter*

Works every time.

I like it not as much as X1 2 or 3 but I like it and alot its just different if you can get over the shifted game emphasis then buy it. I did and I'm not unhappy. On a side note though I find it alot easier to discover alien bases now so its more of a fair fight the alien ships late game are a bitch and a half however its more fair and the war is more leveled then say X-Com 2 alot more balanced for both sides also its alot faster going then X-Com 3 RT battle mode. It's differculty is slightly higher then X-Com 3 and ALOT less then X-Com 2, so its not hard at all even late game it's alot easier then late game X-Com 2.
