[stewart]
I noticed that some adds threads have been placed in the morgue. I'm wondering if we should setup a Bulletine board forum to contain these things. What do you all think?

mikker
what's wrong with the current one?
[Blehm 98]
depends - it would give people a place to post adds, and then no more spam in other forums. Although, it would have to be acceptable, and serve a purpose, so perhaps only gaming related websites will go there, and perhaps gaming related project and such
[stewart]
What about setting it up with rules? What rules could there be?
Guest Azrael
In that case, I'd say only members of the board which have signed up at least 1-2 months ago, that way we could at least prevent those who sign up for the only purpose of putting up an ad, but I'd still prefer no. [stewart]
I could set it up by number of posts. How many posts?
Guest Azrael
How about 150-200? Edited October 5, 2005 by Azrael
kafros
300 would do the trick IMO...
Guest Azrael
Heh, I had thought of 300 but thouhgt it was maybe too much, but I'm all for it
[stewart]
Actually I think I can tollerate some posties:1 ) we provide anouther service2 ) it may expand membership3 ) it might gives more potential hits on a wider range of subjects I'm thinking a much lower number of posts myself. What would be the rules about WHAT is posted.
[Blehm 98]
I'd say 10 posts, or maybe even less, because there are a lot of lurking members or people who don't post much, but see this great website or a gaming place or something that needs help, and not being able to post until they get 100 posts would make them leave how many active members do you think have over 100 posts? not very many, most take a while to get that high

[stewart]
Well no porn of course, and no piracy. I've looked through some of the "adds" posted and they seem inocent enough.
Guest Azrael
If the "NO" wins, are we going to keep prohibiting ads or will we (you ) allow them anyhow?
[stewart]
Havent decided, but such a forum would need a moderator I'd add also no adds promoting religious or political causes.
Zombie
Stewart: At first, I was a bit against this idea. Must've softened up overnight though. I can tolerate such a forum with the following rules:No PornNo PiracyNo ReligionNo PoliticsNo FlamingWell, actually whatever the current rules of this website are should also apply to that area except that ads are allowed. A moderator would definitely be needed to police that forum. As for who could post, why not just make it open to members who have registered? Forget about the post count restriction as only members are allowed to place ads there. That would be the simple solution. - Zombie
Guest Azrael
I still think a post restriction is a must here, ok, maybe not 100 posts, but at least 10-20.
[dipstick]
I voted against this, but I suppose if it were tightly controlled, then it is an acceptable sin. I would recommend limiting advertisement access to forum members and above (ie one post) but anything more is quite stupid. Just make sure that they are registered really, and if there is any problem, kill the account. Relatively simple to do - especially with the sheer number of globals we have around here. [stewart]
Of course we'd reserve the right to delete adds at our discression and with no explanation. There seems to be a demand for this. If controlled there are some benefits to us. I believe the post limit idea of Azrael is good, I'm think 100 tops but progably less. Of course this can be adjusted with experience as well as what is posted. What are the reasons against this?
[Blehm 98]
I'd mod the forum i agree with zombie's rules, they seem to work and fit our policies in fact, all those rules are already in affect, just i think spelling it out might help more. ATeX
it won't help us further. It's fun, but useless.
Guest Azrael
I am not even sure it is fun... but I agree it's useless.
kafros
The only benefit I can see right now is just some more website hits for us... But in that case, why don't we link-exchange with other sites?! Much more simple... In addition, I've noticed that the project doesn't have an official banner, or a 88X35 (whateva) minibanner (although the latter is used for tutorial/design sites IIRC). Anyway, a Xenocide-gif banner would hurt no1 . And IMO its the only way for website-forum promotion. Ads would be useless...
Guest Azrael
Well, since now we *are* doing advertising in various websites, I'd say it's only correct that we allow it as well. I now agree that we should have a forum exclusively for ads, but keeping a few rules, such as the advertised site being of appropiate content (no porn, etc), the language being watched, the ad be a descriptive one, not just "CHECK IT OUT, BEST SITE EVER!!!111!!!1", I say we do it.
[Blehm 98]
it will give people a place to put adds instead of spamming other places, so thats at least one advantage but only adds that have descriptions,, we didn't just say "look at this omega cool website!!11!!!1 www.projectxenocide.com" we had a detailed and structured add. So only adds of that sort should be allowed
