I've noticed that there were much more aliens than in the drop option in the editor. Does the UFO do multiple drops based on how long it is allowed to do so?

I dunno, did you wait until there was an alert raised? If you wait the aliens reproduce and you fight more aliens when you finally arrive to clear them out.

Generally I find drops are at their strongest the very moment they are beamed in. The infiltration that hits the outlying areas around the drop site fester a bit over a time and then dies off. If left too long, then the alerts are made, which is not good.

The editor I think probably only deposits a fixed strength/number of aliens. The game's drops will most probably be altered by difficulty, the size of the crew being dropped by the UFO and perhaps time.

I suspect that it has something to do with how long the drop last. It may send aliens in portions, one portion being defined as the drop in Apoc'd.

I usually conduct ground assaults just after taking care of the UFOs.
