I don't really look forward to doing Cydonia or Bust... I just go there to get the job done.

AC-I in jungle is best. For that matter it softens up most landscapes. REAL fun in town I must say.jungle.. i'd say that's a map which increases the "soldier loss/mission" average for me at least. They always kick my donkey there..
I voted snow; it's the most boring.

So, you want it not cluttered and to provide cover for you men? How is that possible?Jungle because it is so cluttered. Plus, I try not to use rockets too much because it deprives my men of cover.

I think the same problem is in desert. But I hate jungle too because there's too much of hiding places for aliens.Snow. I tend to have agorophobia with nothing to hide behind

Boooorrriiinnnggg!!!!!! :whatwhat:
You can´t really hide there and there isn´t much exciting to see.
Bah!
My favourite is Mountains and City.
I don´t get mountains often and I like those caverns!
Okay, it´s not that interesting but looks good.
City is best! With all those houses to hide (or burn down) and fuel stations to blow up!

Urban combat rocks!
Desert is somewhat boring, too.
Farm is OK, but appears to be too often...
Jungle is better than forest.
Watch out for those Viet.., uh, I mean aliens!
EDIT: Map Editor???? I want it!!!! Where can I grab it???? Pleeeaassee!!

use xcomutil, it fixes the disconnected base bug.
That's some kind of patch, right (forgive me, I'm the most tech-dumb newbie out there, I assure you)? I'm getting the impression that it's for the Dos version, right? I've got the Windows CE, but I'll look into it. Thanks.

No, xcomutil is for both DOS and CE, it fixes other things as well, and adds in new features. The bases look a little weird after applying the fix, but hey
Weird? It actually applies graphical changes?

But I liked the original graphics, too...
But thanks, I'll look into this. Maybe I won't crash every two minutes!

Then again, this Thread is fo the original XCOM, not TFD

In XCOM1, I must say the cities were far too cramped and full of hiding holes to be much fun, the worst part was that we could'nt blow up many walls, because of those Friggin' civilians (who waited to be shot for a day or more before my guys arrived)... I usually am carefull about civilians, but unfortunately they are usually used to point where the aliens are...

Farmalnds come a close second though, because there are far too much of those... At least there are only a couple buildings, but c'mon, there is'nt that much farmland on earth... I'd understand it perfectly if the UFO landed, it won't go in plain wilderness unaided, but when a UFO crashes... Technically, one should crash in a city once in a while, that'd be fun

Those who don't like jungle obviously have never heard of AC-HE or AC-IC, it rocks... :happybanana:
Those who don't like Arctic, I don't get it IT'S SO COOL!!!! (pun definitely intended). then again, since I'm in Canada, I understand some people just don't get it what snow is all about :

Mountains are great, simply because we don't get enough of these, as are XCOM-Bases... I usually shoot down the battleships way before they find me

Alien bases can become dull though, especially if you've done a few of them. Far too long to take on... (Motion scanner anyone?) <_<
The Cruise ships on TFTD, they do it to me every time i play it. I have actually started to just leave the cruise ships alone. and the problem is, the aliens never go to levels 3 or 4, but i searched everywhere. Then when i am done, if find it on level 1

1) Find a snowdrift for use as cover
2) Find a no-name rookie and a squaddie/sergeant
3) Prime a couple of smoke grenades
4) Completely ignore smoke grenades and snowdrift, get rookie as close to the door as you can, have officer crouch behind rookie
5) Have officer stand 2 squares behind UFO door, rookie right next to it
6) Make rookie enter UFO. . .
7) Hear a big boom, watch body of rookie come flying out of UFO, officer opens fire, watch body of alien come flying out of UFO
8) Stand by for debriefing

Yeah, bases are not as LONG and FRIGGIN LARGE as in TFTD though, so they're okay IMO...alien base. i hate that squishy walking noise and all the flashy wierd stuff! Makes me wonder why you cant just bunkerbuster the heck out of them... And all those trigger happy aliens with blaster bombs!
But I agree the blood pumpd up when you hear the screeching sound...
Only worse thing is a snakeman base (where you can't blow up the chrysalids cover) or an Ethereal base (where the MC you to death)

I mean, they're quite cool, but it would be nice to have a bear or alien there once in a while...

checking the map with mapview, there are waypoints in the cave, so technically the aliens should enter it once in a while, but they have no spawn point in there, only outside the cave.By the Way, Is it just me, or does the aliens VERY rarely spawn or venture into the caves?
