i just thought of this, you said hive wasn't working because skyranger needed a place to land, what about a UFO2000 Hive map

The anti-logarithm of the logarithm of X plus the logarithm of Y equals X times Y, or 10^(logX + logY) = XY

The Hive terrain is available to download for the original game and the Skyranger can land there, although the terrain might work better if there wasn't the plane but that's how the game is. It would work better if it replaced the Alien Base terrain but that terrain can only have 2 levels on the original game.
I have a version of the Hive for UFO2000 but it doesn't work. Games take forever to finish (like Warehouse) because of having so much built levels and grenades completely ruin the map.

Then alter the MCDs to make the walls, etc. tougher?
With the current beta if you have 2 or 3 grenades exploding at the same location they will destroy any map feature, even if they have a 255 constitution setting (the maximum currently possible). Your idea works on the original game, where indestructible MCD entries stay indestructible but not on UFO2000 right now.
EDIT: I've just checked the 255 setting and on the current beta it won't be destroyed. But i still dislike having Hive available for UFO2000 because the map is too much of a maze and gets boring to play.
